A leading global engineering consultancy is seeking an Engineering Software Specialists with expertise in Hexagon’s SmartPlant Foundation (SPF) and SDx platforms to join their Kuala Lumpur team.

You will play a key role in administering and optimising Hexagon SPF and SDx platforms supporting global engineering initiatives across APAC, North America, and South America.

What you'll do:

As an Engineering Software Specialist – Hexagon SPF and SDx based in Kuala Lumpur, you will play a vital part in ensuring that project teams have dependable access to structured information through expertly managed data platforms. Your day-to-day activities will involve :

  • Managing the configuration and ongoing administration of SmartPlant Foundation (SPF) and SDx environments, including user access, metadata structures, document classes, templates, and workflow processes.
  • Maintaining synchronisation between engineering systems and the central information hub to ensure reliable data availability for project teams.
  • Overseeing the integration of SPF and SDx with design tools such as S3D, SPID, SI, SEL as well as enterprise systems like SMAT and EcoSys.
  • Supporting document workflow processes based on SPF architecture while facilitating accurate metadata ingestion into SDx for comprehensive information management.
  • Developing customised dashboards, reports, and metadata queries that enable effective document control monitoring and compliance reporting across multiple projects.
  • Collaborating closely with business teams to define requirements for KPI-based monitoring solutions and automate reporting processes where possible.
  • Delivering training sessions for Document Control and Engineering teams on workflow best practices, metadata management techniques, and system navigation protocols.
  • Acting as the first point of contact for user requests related to SPF/SDx enhancements or troubleshooting needs, providing timely support and guidance.
  • Driving automation initiatives aimed at optimising document management workflows while participating in system upgrades and user acceptance testing for new features or process improvements.
  • Enforcing governance over document standards and metadata integrity across all supported projects to ensure regulatory compliance during audits.

What you bring:

To excel as an Engineering Software Specialist – Hexagon SmartPlant Foundation and SDx you will bring a blend of technical proficiency in platform administration alongside practical experience gained from supporting complex engineering or project execution environments. Your background should include :

  • Essential: Diploma in IT, Document Management or Engineering-related field demonstrating foundational knowledge relevant to this specialist role.
  • Highly desirable: Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Data Management or Engineering offering advanced understanding of technical concepts.
  • Formal training or proven experience with Hexagon SmartPlant Foundation (SPF) & SDx platforms is required for effective system administration.
  • Three to five years’ experience managing SPF/SDx environments including configuration tasks such as user setup, metadata structuring, template creation, and workflow customisation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of document lifecycle workflows along with strong familiarity with metadata structures and principles of information governance within engineering contexts.
  • Experience integrating SmartPlant tools (S3D, SPID etc.) with enterprise systems like SMAT or EcoSys is highly advantageous for supporting seamless data flows.
  • Proven ability to develop dashboards/reports using platform-specific tools that facilitate compliance monitoring and decision-making based on key performance indicators.
  • Excellent communication skills in English are essential; additional fluency in Spanish or Portuguese would be beneficial when supporting LATAM operations.
  • Willingness to provide cross-region support spanning APAC, North America, South America time zones as needed by project demands.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including empathy towards end users’ needs combined with a collaborative approach when working within multicultural teams.
