Save job

A leading data centre organisation is seeking an Assistant Manager Environmental Health and Safety to join their team in Sedenak. This role offers you the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by ensuring the highest standards of occupational health, environmental protection, and safety across state-of-the-art facilities.

What you'll do:

As an Assistant Manager Environmental Health and Safety based in Sedenak, you will play a central role in maintaining high standards of occupational health, environmental protection, and safety throughout the organisation’s data centre facilities. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve conducting rigorous inspections of workspaces to identify potential hazards; developing robust inspection schedules; preparing engaging training sessions for staff; leading incident investigations; maintaining compliance documentation; overseeing risk assessments; liaising with external stakeholders; conducting audits; supporting ISO accreditation efforts; coordinating accident investigation processes; tracking lost manhours due to incidents; building effective EHS networks; collaborating with operations teams; ensuring regulatory compliance; alerting senior management of discrepancies; guiding employees on hazard identification; providing support for facility projects; maintaining up-to-date records; being available after hours for emergencies; returning onsite when required for urgent investigations; and undertaking additional EHS-related tasks as assigned. Success in this role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, strong interpersonal skills for collaboration across departments, meticulous attention to detail in documentation and reporting, as well as a genuine commitment to fostering a safe environment for all staff members.

  • Inspect and evaluate working environments, equipment, and processes to ensure full compliance with customer requirements, government EHS regulations, and applicable industry standards.
  • Identify safety, health, and environmental hazards through thorough inspections of premises, following up on risks until closure is achieved.
  • Develop inspection policies and procedures as well as schedules for routine checks according to organisational and client requirements.
  • Prepare and deliver comprehensive training sessions covering emergency procedures, workplace safety protocols, and other essential topics for staff.
  • Lead site incident investigations including detailed reporting such as root cause analysis and updates for management teams.
  • Maintain accurate records of hazardous waste discharge or employee exposure to pollutants in accordance with legislative mandates.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of risk assessments for critical work activities across all sites.
  • Present findings and liaise with customer EHS personnel or project consultants to secure necessary approvals for operational changes.
  • Conduct site-specific audits to measure compliance with procedures and legislation, determining corrective actions and closing out non-conformances.
  • Ensure policies, systems, processes, and procedures support ongoing ISO accreditation for Quality, Information Security, Environmental Health, and Safety Management Systems.

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for the Assistant Manager Environmental Health and Safety role will bring proven experience in managing complex EHS programmes within large-scale facilities such as data centres or manufacturing operations. Your background should include hands-on involvement with regulatory compliance processes—ensuring adherence to local laws governing occupational health, safety protocols, environmental protection measures—and familiarity with ISO accreditation requirements. You will demonstrate strong interpersonal skills that enable you to build trust-based relationships across departments while supporting collaborative efforts towards shared goals. Your ability to communicate clearly at all levels ensures that training sessions are engaging and informative while incident investigations are thorough. A keen eye for detail allows you to maintain accurate records vital for legal compliance. Your willingness to respond promptly during emergencies reflects your dependability. Additional certifications further enhance your credentials but above all your commitment to nurturing safe environments sets you apart.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of laws governing Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment specific to data centre building management and maintenance including emergency evacuation protocols.
  • Bachelor of Science degree preferred (especially in Safety Engineering, Environmental Science or related discipline), though not mandatory if equivalent experience is demonstrated.
  • Registered or certified EHS Officer status in Malaysia is essential for this position.
  • Additional professional EHS certifications such as Certified Environmental Safety & Health Practitioner or Certified Professional Environment Auditor are highly regarded.
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001, ISO 45001 standards as well as Malaysian EHS legislation including OSH Act, Factories & Machinery Act, Fire Services Act, Environmental legislation and subsidiary regulations.
  • Minimum five years’ progressive experience leading EHS initiatives with emphasis on safety management, loss prevention or industrial hygiene within manufacturing or similar operations.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with business management teams and technical professionals while developing strong partnerships across functions.
  • Demonstrated skill in communicating effectively at all levels of the organisation including influencing decisions through consensus-building approaches.
  • Experience managing compliance documentation for regulatory purposes including building drawings and single-line diagrams mandated by Federal or State law.
  • Willingness to operate outside regular office hours including public holidays with availability on-call 24/7 for emergency response situations.
