Mechanical Design Manager (Data Centre)
A leading data centre organisation is seeking a Mechanical Design Manager to join their team in Kuala Lumpur. This role offers you the opportunity to shape the future of data centre design across regional metros, focusing on reliability, efficiency, and sustainability benchmarks. You will be at the forefront of delivering innovative solutions for both greenfield and fit-out projects, ensuring designs meet international best practices, regulatory requirements, and local climate conditions.
What you'll do:
As a Mechanical Design Manager Data Centre based in Kuala Lumpur, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality mechanical designs for multiple regional projects. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve collaborating closely with internal teams, clients, vendors, and regulatory authorities to ensure each project meets stringent reliability, efficiency, and sustainability standards. You will be responsible for managing the entire design process from concept through construction documentation, including technical evaluation and quality assurance. Success in this role requires a keen understanding of local climate impacts on data centre operations, proficiency in drafting specifications and reviewing equipment selections, as well as the ability to standardise methodologies while tailoring solutions for specific sites. Your commitment to maintaining regulatory compliance and fostering positive stakeholder relationships will be essential as you drive desirable outcomes across concurrent projects.
- Oversee the completion of mechanical design for several data centre projects simultaneously, ensuring all deliverables are met within budget and programme constraints.
- Develop new data centre designs that achieve reliability and availability targets, optimise for local climate conditions, and adhere to sustainability benchmarks such as PUE and WUE.
- Attend technical interviews with clients and vendors, providing expert input during tender processes and construction drawing development.
- Draft tender specifications, conduct technical evaluations, and perform technical downloads to construction and operation teams to ensure seamless project execution.
- Review equipment specifications, shop drawings, and construction documents to guarantee coordination with other disciplines and compliance with codes.
- Validate construction drawings and inspect testing results to maintain high standards of quality control throughout the project lifecycle.
- Prepare general contractor tender documents and evaluate submissions for regulatory compliance and build-to-suit requirements.
- Standardise design methodologies while developing site-specific solutions that address unique project needs across different locations.
- Maintain positive relationships with authorities having jurisdiction through pre-consultation activities that influence outcomes favourably.
- Monitor changes in planning policy or law that may affect property development, ensuring all designs remain compliant.
