Associate Director, Catastrophe Management

A leading global reinsurance team in Kuala Lumpur is seeking an Associate Director Catastrophe Management to join their ranks. This role offers you the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by shaping risk decisions that protect and enrich lives across Malaysia. What you'll do:

  • Audit, format, and compile insurance risk portfolios using MS Access, MS Excel, SQL and other software platforms for effective catastrophe management.
  • Conduct catastrophe modelling analysis utilising both internal and externally licensed models such as Verisk, Moody’s, and CoreLogic to assess risk exposures.
  • Interpret model results, test and evaluate catastrophe models to ensure accuracy and reliability in risk assessments.
  • Apply catastrophe modelling results to inform reinsurance design, pricing strategies, and placement activities for clients.
  • Act as the local territory contact by liaising with clients and colleagues to establish project objectives, manage outcomes, and oversee project delivery.
  • Build strong relationships with client staff to identify information gaps, improve processes, and enhance analytical outcomes through collaborative efforts.
  • Deliver presentations, training sessions, workshops, and provide related assistance to support the effective use of key tools and products within the organisation.
  • Drive the View of Risk initiative in Malaysia by utilising Impact Forecasting models and coordinating with regional analytics teams for continual development.
  • Serve as a liaison with local research institutions, government departments, and third parties to advance research on risk modelling for Malaysia.
  • Coordinate client feedback and identify business opportunities related to View of Risk including reinsurance underwriting and rating enhancements.

What you bring:

  • Graduated in a science field such as earth science, physics, mathematics or related disciplines including actuarial studies or finance.
  • Minimum three years’ experience in (re)insurance working in an analytical role focused on catastrophe modelling or management.
  • Strong experience operating Verisk, Moody’s, CoreLogic catastrophe modelling platforms with proven interpretation skills.
  • Advanced computer proficiency in MS Office suites including Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook; Microsoft SQL experience preferred.
  • Programming or scripting experience is advantageous for automating data processes or enhancing analytical capabilities.
  • GIS experience (ACRMAP) is desirable for spatial analysis of risk portfolios within catastrophe management projects.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills enabling you to interface effectively with all levels within the corporation as well as external business units.
  • Ability to conduct engaging presentations and training sessions that communicate complex concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Proven track record of collaborating with research institutions or government departments on risk-related projects is beneficial.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning by keeping up-to-date with analytics products and local market initiatives.
