An exciting Assistant Vice President, Compliance position has just become available at a reputable international bank based in Kuala Lumpur.

What you'll do:

  • Develop and implement policies, strategies, and improvement plans to effectively manage compliance risks and ensure adherence to regulations, directives, and laws issued by regulators in Malaysia, Japan, and other jurisdictions where the Bank operates.
  • Review and perform gap analyses on local regulations issued by Bank Negara Malaysia and the Labuan Financial Services Authority, including Policy Documents (PD), Exposure Drafts (ED), as well as relevant regulations from other authorities such as the Securities Commission.
  • Collaborate with business, product, and support units to develop action plans and control processes addressing regulatory requirements identified through gap analyses.
  • Provide recommendations for continuous improvement, support implementation efforts, and take appropriate action to address any violations of laws, regulations, or the Bank’s Compliance Manual and Standard Procedures, including reporting suspicious activities in line with internal procedures.
  • Engage and communicate effectively with BNM and LFSA, understanding the underlying enquiries and issues to identify compliance concerns and ensure regulatory requirements are met.
  • Provide a high quality regulatory advisory service to Business Unit in respect of various products and support offices across the Banks on local regulatory requirements, including but not limited to foreign exchange requirements, PDPA, banking secrecy provision under various laws, regulations, regulatory notices and guidelines in order to ensure the Banks’ compliance with these requirements.
  • Assess, report, and investigate of regulatory breach incident, including follow up for action plan closure.
  • Perform periodic compliance reviews (covering both Core Compliance and Financial Crime Compliance) to ensure that the Bank’s business conduct, procedures, and operations align with external laws and regulations as well as the Bank’s Compliance Standard Manual, and report any findings to the relevant compliance offices.
  • Establish and maintain the policies & procedures in relation to compliance with the Parent Bank & external regulatory requirements.
  • Provide advisory services to the Source Department on Compliance related matters in relation to parent bank’s requirements and external laws & regulations.
  • Monitor and check for potential conflict such as personal account dealing, outside business interest.
  • Monitoring and tracking of open issues to ensure proper timely closure of compliance issues.
  • Conduct validation of corrective action plan and updating status of Open Issue Management report in internal systems.
  • Strictly observe the deadline on the preparation of various compliance reports to Management, Parent Bank and Regional Office.
  • Attend to any ad-hoc or new assignments which may be delegated from time to time by the immediate Supervisor, CCO and Management.

What you'll bring:

  • Must posses recognized Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Law, or an equivalent field from an accredited university or higher learning institution is required.
  • Candidates with a Compliance Certification are highly preferred.
  • 6–8 years of experience in banking compliance, with strong knowledge of the regulatory landscape, industry trends, banking products, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence, build rapport with regulators and stakeholders, and effectively collaborate across departments.
  • Strong stakeholder management capabilities and proven ability to foster positive relationships with both internal teams and external regulatory bodies.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills when interacting with employees, clients, and external parties.
