What you'll do:
As a Tax Manager based in Penang, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring accurate tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions while connecting with various teams throughout the organisation. Your day-to-day activities will involve coordinating with external advisors on Malaysian tax matters, supporting quarterly group reporting processes, assisting in regulatory audits, tracking eligibility for incentives, implementing intercompany pricing policies, preparing U.S. tax returns, utilising automation tools for data processing, and contributing to global minimum tax projects. Success in this role requires you to be responsive to regulatory requests, empathetic when working with colleagues from different departments or regions, considerate in managing deadlines for compliance tasks, dependable in delivering accurate reports on time, knowledgeable about evolving regulations across Asia Pacific countries as well as the U.S., and committed to sharing information that supports business growth. Your ability to foster collaboration among teams will be key as you help drive effective solutions for complex tax challenges.
- Coordinate with external tax advisors to ensure full compliance with Malaysian corporate income tax, indirect taxes, withholding tax, transfer pricing regulations, and all relevant regulatory requirements.
- Support the preparation of current and deferred Malaysia tax provisions for Group quarterly reporting purposes by collaborating with finance teams and sharing insights.
- Assist in audits, queries, and requests from Malaysia tax and regulatory authorities by responding promptly and accurately while maintaining positive relationships.
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to track eligibility for Malaysia tax incentives, manage annual compliance processes, and handle renewals or renegotiations as needed.
- Support the implementation of intercompany pricing policies by preparing detailed Malaysia tax analysis that aligns with business initiatives.
- Provide assistance to the Hong Kong tax team in Asia Pacific region tax compliance and accounting work covering Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, and Taiwan.
- Contribute to the implementation of BEPS 2.0 Pillar Two Global Minimum Tax by sharing knowledge and supporting related projects.
- Prepare U.S. tax returns including forms 5471 and 8858 along with supporting calculations such as fixed asset data management.
- Utilise automation tools like Alteryx, Corptax, Kindo AI platforms for efficient tax data processing and reporting.
- Collaborate with colleagues across departments to share best practices in tax compliance and reporting while supporting ongoing business objectives.

- Recognised degree in accounting or equivalent from a reputable educational institution coupled with a professional qualification such as ACCA, CPA, CA, MIA or CTIM is essential for this position.
- Minimum five years of relevant Asia tax experience ideally gained from both recognised public accounting firms and multinational corporations' in-house tax functions.
- Strong knowledge of Malaysian tax laws including corporate income tax regulations, indirect taxes guidelines, withholding taxes procedures and transfer pricing requirements.
- Experience handling audits or queries from Malaysian regulatory authorities demonstrating responsiveness and empathy towards stakeholders involved.
- Familiarity with other Asia countries’ (Hong Kong/Singapore/Japan/Taiwan) or U.S. tax regulations is advantageous but not mandatory; willingness to learn is highly valued.
- Excellent communication skills enabling you to connect effectively with internal teams as well as external advisors while sharing information clearly.
- Outstanding interpersonal abilities allowing you to nurture relationships within cross-functional groups fostering an inclusive workplace culture.
- Financial analytical skills that support accurate preparation of current/deferred provisions plus insightful analysis for business initiatives.
- Knowledge of automation tools such as Alteryx/Corptax/Kindo AI platforms is beneficial but not required; openness to training opportunities is encouraged.
