Tax Manager

Save job

A leading organisation in Kuala Lumpur is seeking a dedicated Tax Manager to oversee all regional tax matters for consolidated legal entities across Asia Pacific. This role offers you the opportunity to work within a supportive and knowledgeable team, where your expertise will be valued and your professional growth encouraged. You will play a pivotal part in ensuring accurate and timely tax filings, compliance with evolving legislation, and strategic planning to mitigate risks. The organisation is committed to fostering an inclusive environment, providing flexible working opportunities, and supporting your ongoing development through training and mentorship. If you are looking for a role that combines technical excellence with collaborative leadership and the chance to make a meaningful impact across multiple jurisdictions, this is the perfect opportunity for you. * You will be responsible for managing all aspects of regional tax compliance, including corporate income tax, transfer pricing, transaction taxes, and indirect taxes for subsidiaries operating in diverse jurisdictions. * You will benefit from comprehensive training opportunities and a nurturing environment that values teamwork, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.

What you'll do:

As Tax Manager based in Kuala Lumpur, you will be entrusted with overseeing complex regional tax matters for consolidated legal entities throughout Asia Pacific. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve ensuring compliance with various tax regulations by coordinating accurate filings across multiple jurisdictions. You will monitor legislative changes closely to anticipate risks while supporting business development initiatives through expert advice on their tax implications. By collaborating with internal teams and external advisors alike, you will help shape agreements that maximise incentives while safeguarding against disputes. Your leadership skills will shine as you mentor direct reports—fostering a culture of learning—and manage resources efficiently. Success in this role requires not only technical proficiency but also a commitment to building dependable relationships within an international environment.

  • Ensure timely and accurate tax filings for entities operating in the Asia Pacific region, including corporate income tax returns, GST/SST/VAT returns, transfer pricing documentation, and withholding tax returns supported by third-party service providers.
  • Lead all tax activities across different geographies within the region in accordance with global tax policies and strategies for the company and its subsidiaries.
  • Monitor current and impending legislative and regulatory tax law developments in relevant jurisdictions to identify potential risks and create strategies to mitigate them.
  • Support business development projects by assessing their regional tax implications and advising on compliance requirements.
  • Track compliance with all applicable laws and regulations across areas such as corporate income tax, transfer pricing, transaction taxes, and indirect taxes relating to subsidiaries in all relevant jurisdictions.
  • Lead local audits by maintaining up-to-date audit defence files and preparing uncertain tax position memoranda relating to subsidiaries.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to maintain global transfer pricing policy within the region and ensure alignment with organisational objectives.
  • Provide regional input to agreements with lessees, subcontractors, suppliers, and other parties to ensure taxation clauses are included and aligned with incentives to be obtained.
  • Develop strong relationships with tax advisors; liaise with relevant authorities to obtain regional incentives, grants, reliefs, manage potential disputes, and coordinate with the parent organisation on tax matters.
  • Mentor direct reports by acting as a role model for the organisation, facilitating learning and development opportunities, managing resources effectively, overseeing unit affairs, and cultivating a positive culture.

What you bring:

To excel as Tax Manager in this organisation you will bring proven experience managing complex cross-border taxation issues within multinational environments—ideally having worked at least five years either at a major global firm or within large-scale enterprises. Your interpersonal skills are crucial: you must be able to connect empathetically with colleagues from diverse backgrounds while negotiating effectively during audits or dispute resolution processes. Advanced leadership abilities are required as you guide teams through challenging scenarios—always maintaining composure under pressure. Your systematic approach ensures thoroughness when navigating intricate regulatory landscapes; meanwhile your solution-focused mindset helps drive positive outcomes even amidst uncertainty. Academic credentials should include finance or law degrees plus professional certifications; sector-specific exposure (infrastructure/offshore oil & gas) would further enhance your suitability.

  • In-depth expertise across different areas of taxation including cross-border matters combined with deep commercial understanding gained from at least five years’ experience in multinational organisations or Big 4 firms.
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships both internally among colleagues and externally with advisors or authorities while performing effectively in challenging international settings.
  • Excellent communication skills enabling you to present complex issues concisely across all levels of the organisation; negotiation skills are essential when dealing with stakeholders or resolving disputes.
  • Advanced people leadership capabilities demonstrated through building high-performance teams across geographies within an international setup.
  • A systematic approach towards solving intricate problems related to global tax strategy coupled with solution-oriented thinking; attention to detail balanced by big-picture perspective.
  • High degree of self-motivation paired with hands-on attitude; entrepreneurial mindset; ability to engage collaboratively as part of a team delivering results under tight deadlines in fast-moving environments.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Law (or equivalent) alongside relevant professional qualifications; additional experience in infrastructure or offshore oil & gas sectors considered advantageous.
