What you'll do:
As Financial Controller based in Sarawak, you will play a central role in guiding the financial direction of multiple operating entities within a prominent engineering conglomerate. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve collaborating with division heads to provide insightful financial analysis on joint ventures and tenders while ensuring robust controls around complex project accounting. You will lead efforts in cash flow optimisation across capital-intensive operations by managing bank facilities and trade financing arrangements. By overseeing statutory consolidations and board reporting according to MFRS/IFRS standards, you will ensure timely delivery of accurate information for strategic decision-making. Your ability to evaluate internal controls and monitor risk exposures will be crucial in safeguarding assets while supporting decentralised finance teams through hands-on mentorship. Success in this role requires you to champion continuous improvement initiatives that enhance transparency and accountability throughout the organisation’s finance function.
* Drive comprehensive financial management, reporting, and statutory compliance across designated group subsidiaries while maintaining strict fiscal discipline and ensuring alignment with organisational objectives.
* Establish rigorous controls around long-term EPCC/construction contracts including revenue recognition under MFRS 15, variation order tracking, project margin analysis, and cost-to-complete forecasting.
* Lead short- and long-term cash flow planning by optimising working capital allocation, bank facility utilisation, trade financing arrangements, and foreign exchange risk management for capital-intensive operations.
* Oversee timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closes as well as statutory consolidations and board reporting in accordance with MFRS/IFRS guidelines.
* Evaluate and strengthen operational internal control systems by monitoring project risk exposures and serving as the main interface for both internal and external auditors.
* Serve as a strategic business partner to division heads and managing directors by providing financial insight on joint ventures, tender submissions, capital allocation decisions, and operational efficiency improvements.
* Support the development of decentralised finance teams through hands-on guidance while fostering collaboration across business units.
* Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements by implementing best practices in financial governance.
* Collaborate closely with senior stakeholders to deliver accurate forecasts that inform key business decisions related to infrastructure investments.

* Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent qualification is required for this position.
* Mandatory membership in a recognised professional body such as MIA, ACCA, CPA, CIMA or ICAEW ensures adherence to industry standards.
* Minimum 12–15 years of progressive finance experience with at least 5+ years in a Financial Controller or Senior Finance Manager role overseeing multi-entity operations within engineering or construction sectors.
* Demonstrated command of complex project accounting including joint venture accounting practices relevant to EPCC/marine/heavy construction environments.
* Proven expertise in trade financing arrangements as well as group consolidation processes for diversified business units.
* Exceptional stakeholder management capabilities enable effective communication across all levels of the organisation.
* Hands-on approach to managing decentralised finance teams fosters collaboration among colleagues from different disciplines.
* Ability to implement rigorous internal controls that mitigate risks associated with large-scale infrastructure projects.
