An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Finance Controller to join a leading organisation in Petaling Jaya, overseeing operations across Malaysia and the Philippines. This pivotal role is designed for someone who thrives on providing expert financial guidance, supporting commercial decision-making, and ensuring robust compliance with accounting standards. You will play a crucial part in evaluating high-impact projects, coordinating contract processes, and delivering insightful financial analysis that shapes strategic direction. The position offers the chance to work closely with senior leadership, influence key business outcomes, and drive continuous improvement in financial processes. With flexible working opportunities and a supportive team environment, this is an ideal role for someone looking to make a significant impact while developing their career within a collaborative and forward-thinking setting.

  • Play a central role in shaping commercial strategy by providing expert financial insights on project proposals, customer pricing, rebates, and marketing support across Malaysia and the Philippines.
  • Enjoy flexible working opportunities within a supportive team culture that values knowledge sharing, professional growth, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Work directly with senior leaders to enhance financial processes, ensure SOX compliance, and contribute to the success of high-profile projects in a dynamic regional environment.

What you'll do:

As Finance Controller, you will be at the heart of all commercial finance activities across Malaysia and the Philippines. Your day-to-day responsibilities will see you collaborating closely with country managers, commercial teams, and external partners to evaluate project proposals, coordinate contract processes from inception through completion, and ensure strict adherence to SOX compliance requirements. You will be instrumental in preparing comprehensive post-project analyses that inform future investment decisions while also identifying innovative financing solutions that optimise capital allocation. Your expertise will extend into customer pricing strategies where your recommendations will help shape competitive commercial terms. In addition to managing budgeting cycles using tools like COGNOS and SAP, you will regularly review cost centre spending against budgets, oversee investment requests, and deliver insightful profitability analyses that guide commercial strategy. Your role will also involve supporting audit processes, ensuring timely statutory reporting, promoting best practices in local business process compliance, driving adoption of new business models where appropriate, and assisting stakeholders with various finance-related assignments. Success in this position requires not only technical proficiency but also strong interpersonal skills as you work collaboratively across functions to deliver results that have a lasting impact on organisational performance.

  • Evaluate filling machine project proposals and provide well-considered recommendations to support effective decision-making for major capital investments.
  • Coordinate the preparation and finalisation of filling line contracts while ensuring full compliance with relevant SOX matrices and accounting standards.
  • Prepare detailed post-project calculations for filling line initiatives to assess performance against expectations and identify areas for improvement.
  • Identify suitable financing instruments such as S&L or discounted LC terms to optimise capital expenditure related to filling lines.
  • Assess customer packaging material pricing structures, rebates, and marketing support agreements to ensure commercial terms are competitive and compliant.
  • Lead the coordination and preparation of strategic plans, budgets, and forecasts by gathering accurate financial input from multiple stakeholders.
  • Maintain responsibility for COGNOS input for budgetary planning and forecasting activities specific to the Malaysian market.
  • Review standard operating procedure forecasts for both sleeves and filler plans to ensure accuracy and alignment with business objectives.
  • Update monthly COGNOS forms, conduct profitability analyses by customer segment, and present findings to the commercial team to inform business decisions.
  • Support audits (internal and external), month-end closing activities, statutory reporting requirements, and ad-hoc requests from management.

What you bring:

To excel as Finance Controller in this organisation, you will bring extensive experience gained from over a decade working within complex finance environments—ideally those involving commercial operations or large-scale project evaluations. Your academic background will include at least a bachelor’s degree in finance or a related discipline; advanced qualifications such as a master’s degree would further strengthen your profile. You are adept at leveraging technology—particularly Microsoft Office tools—to analyse data sets efficiently while presenting your findings clearly to diverse audiences. Familiarity with enterprise resource planning systems like SAP or analytics platforms such as Power BI will enable you to manage information flows seamlessly across departments. Your deep understanding of accounting standards ensures rigorous compliance practices are maintained at all times. Beyond technical skills, your ability to communicate fluently in English allows you to build trust-based relationships both internally—with colleagues from different functions—and externally—with auditors or service providers. You thrive on driving improvements that boost organisational performance while remaining sensitive to stakeholder needs. Your analytical mindset enables you to dissect complex scenarios quickly so that actionable recommendations can be made confidently. Above all else, your commitment to teamwork ensures that shared goals are achieved through open communication channels and mutual support.

  • A university degree in Finance, Economics, Business or a related field is essential; a Master’s degree is highly desirable for this senior specialist position.
  • Over ten years of progressive experience in finance roles with demonstrable expertise in commercial finance environments is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications—especially Excel and PowerPoint—is critical for data analysis and presentation purposes.
  • Hands-on experience with SAP or Power BI systems is considered an advantage when managing complex financial data sets.
  • A solid understanding of basic accounting principles combined with practical knowledge of SOX compliance requirements is necessary.
  • Exceptional English communication skills are needed to effectively interact with internal teams as well as external service providers.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance financial performance within commercial settings is highly valued.
  • Strong analytical thinking coupled with logical problem-solving abilities ensures accurate evaluation of projects and financial scenarios.
  • Experience supporting audits (internal/external) along with statutory tax reporting responsibilities is important for maintaining regulatory compliance.
  • A collaborative approach with proven ability to work cross-functionally while supporting business partners professionally underpins success in this role.
