An exciting Business Controller job has just become available at one of the MNC companies based in Selangor.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Business Controller to join a highly respected engineering organisation based in Selangor. This pivotal role offers you the chance to become a trusted advisor to the CEO and the regional leadership team, shaping both operational and strategic priorities across financial planning, commercial objectives, treasury, reporting, and controls. As a key member of the Group Finance Leadership Team, you will play an instrumental part in driving group-wide initiatives and ensuring their successful implementation within your business unit. The position is ideal for someone who thrives on collaboration, enjoys supporting growth and transformation, and is passionate about sharing knowledge across multicultural teams. With direct influence over business direction and the opportunity to contribute at board level within subsidiaries, this role provides significant scope for professional development and impact. Flexible working opportunities, generous training support, and a culture that values inclusivity and teamwork make this an outstanding next step for experienced finance professionals seeking to make a difference.

  • Become a strategic partner to senior leadership, directly influencing business decisions and long-term planning while supporting operational excellence across multiple entities.
  • Enjoy a collaborative environment with opportunities to work alongside international teams, share knowledge, and drive impactful change throughout the region.
  • Benefit from flexible working arrangements, ongoing professional development, and a supportive culture that encourages growth leadership and knowledge sharing.

What you'll do:

As Business Controller based in Selangor, you will be at the heart of financial operations—partnering closely with executive leaders to shape strategy while ensuring robust financial stewardship across all entities. Your day-to-day will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver insightful analysis that supports both short- and mid-term planning cycles. You will take ownership of monthly reporting routines as well as annual closing activities; lead budgeting exercises; manage cost control initiatives; oversee project accounting; optimise treasury functions; design effective structures for new ventures; drive process improvements; develop strong internal controls; facilitate knowledge sharing; and provide hands-on support during board-level discussions. Success in this role means not only delivering accurate financials but also proactively identifying challenges before they arise—ensuring your business unit remains agile in response to changing market conditions while maintaining full compliance with group standards.

  • Act as a core member of the leadership team by providing expert financial advice to support decision-making, strategic planning, and implementation of key business initiatives.
  • Participate actively in the Group Finance Leadership Team to ensure seamless execution of group-wide financial strategies within your business unit.
  • Lead monthly and yearly reporting processes for all entities under your remit, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery of financial information.
  • Oversee planning and management accounting activities including forecasting, budgeting, cost control, expense management, and performance tracking against defined targets.
  • Support project accounting by ensuring correct provisions for cost-to-complete, managing liabilities for non-conformance or warranties, and mitigating payment or process risks.
  • Optimise treasury operations by managing FX risk (including hedging), overseeing payment terms in contracts, monitoring working capital metrics such as DSO and cash positions, and consolidating cash-flow forecasts.
  • Design robust structures for new companies or divisions—covering approval processes, reporting frameworks, tax compliance, and ITC matters—in close collaboration with central services.
  • Drive continuous improvement by reviewing financial or process inefficiencies, aligning them with group policies, defining actionable plans, and leading their implementation.
  • Develop control measures to ensure commercial milestones are met for timely billing of downpayments, progressive claims, retention amounts, and work-in-progress valuations.
  • Champion compliance by managing internal controls within the business unit, implementing audit findings promptly in partnership with management teams, and facilitating finance skills development across the region.

What you bring:

To excel as Business Controller you will bring extensive experience from multinational settings where you have supported senior leaders through complex financial landscapes. Your technical expertise spans FP&A processes; treasury management—including sophisticated FX strategies; tax compliance; costing; GAAP/IFRS application; project accounting; SAP system usage; advanced Excel modelling; and more. Beyond technical skills you are recognised for your collaborative approach—building trust among diverse stakeholders—and your ability to nurture talent within your team. You thrive when translating high-level strategy into practical action plans that drive measurable results. Your background includes hands-on involvement in M&A activity or organisational change projects where adaptability was key. Above all you are committed to upholding rigorous standards while fostering an inclusive environment where everyone can contribute their best.

  • Hold a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Finance or related discipline with ideally 8-10 years’ experience in managerial roles focused on controlling or corporate finance within multinational environments.
  • Demonstrate deep understanding of financial planning & analysis (FP&A), treasury operations—including FX risk management—taxation principles, costing methodologies, local/global GAAP as well as IFRS standards.
  • Showcase proven ability to build comprehensive business plans that translate strategic initiatives into actionable numbers while establishing tailored management reporting systems.
  • Bring hands-on experience as a trusted business partner to senior executives (CEO/CFO/SVP/Regional CEO) with exposure to shareholder-facing responsibilities.
  • Possess strong background in project-based businesses with expertise in project accounting practices including cost-to-complete assessments and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Display proficiency in SAP FI-CO modules along with advanced Microsoft Office skills (Excel/Word/PowerPoint), plus familiarity with SAP BW/BPC/TMS tools.
  • Exhibit capability to lead international/multicultural teams at all levels—fostering collaboration through clear communication and shared goals.
  • Demonstrate success in driving strategic projects from conception through implementation—whether initiated corporately or developed within the business unit itself.
  • Experience with M&A projects (due diligence/integration), restructuring efforts or organisational reviews is highly desirable but not essential.
  • Show commitment to continuous learning by developing finance skills within your team while promoting knowledge sharing across regions.
