Project Manager Data & AI (Malaysian only!)

A leading organisation in Kuala Lumpur is seeking a Project Manager Data & AI to establish and oversee the project discipline, financial accountability, and governance framework for an expanding portfolio of artificial intelligence and automation projects.

As a Project Manager Data and Artificial Intelligence based in Kuala Lumpur, you will be entrusted with establishing robust frameworks for managing a diverse portfolio of AI-driven initiatives. Your day-to-day activities will involve close collaboration with both business leaders seeking transformative solutions and technical experts responsible for delivering those solutions. You will design agile processes that fit the unique demands of machine learning operations (MLOps), ensuring each project is scoped effectively from inception through delivery. By overseeing resource allocation among highly skilled professionals such as data scientists, ML engineers, and BI developers, you will help maximise productivity while aligning efforts with strategic priorities. Financial stewardship is at the heart of this role; you will forecast cloud expenditures meticulously, track spending against budgets, and report on both costs incurred and value delivered. Your ability to translate complex model performance metrics into tangible business outcomes will be essential when communicating progress to executives. Furthermore, you will play a key role in upholding ethical standards by embedding governance practices into every stage of the project lifecycle. • Define, implement, and maintain an Agile or Scrum framework specifically tailored for artificial intelligence projects using MLOps principles to ensure timely delivery and clear project scoping.
• Develop and manage the DataAI Project Portfolio by prioritising initiatives based on strategic alignment with organisational goals, feasibility assessments, and expected return on investment.
• Conduct comprehensive resource planning by allocating data scientists, machine learning engineers, and business intelligence developers across multiple projects according to shifting business priorities.
• Take ownership of project cost management by accurately forecasting, tracking, and reporting on cloud computing expenditure including compute and storage costs for model training as well as large language model expenses.
• Standardise methodologies for calculating and tracking project impact by linking model performance metrics such as accuracy or lift directly to key business indicators like call deflection rates or revenue uplift.
• Produce regular executive-level reports that detail project status updates, financial performance summaries, and realisation of business value for senior stakeholders.
• Collaborate closely with business owners to understand requirements while ensuring all AI initiatives adhere to ethical guidelines and regulatory frameworks relevant to data privacy and responsible AI use.
• Facilitate effective communication between innovation teams and technical implementation groups to resolve challenges quickly while maintaining focus on shared objectives.
• Monitor risks associated with production machine learning systems by applying best practices in MLOps risk management throughout the project lifecycle.
• Champion a culture of transparency, inclusivity, and continuous improvement within all project teams.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Finance, Computer Science or a related field is required for this position.
• At least six years of professional experience including two years managing complex artificial intelligence or data science projects is essential.
• A thorough understanding of MLOps practices along with awareness of risks associated with deploying machine learning systems into production environments is necessary.
• Demonstrated experience in cost-benefit analysis (CBA) as well as tracking project benefits such as return on investment calculations is highly valued.
• Holding recognised project management certifications such as PMP or Scrum Master would be considered advantageous for this role.
• Familiarity with major cloud platforms like AWS, Azure or Google Cloud Platform especially regarding billing procedures and resource management is preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal skills enabling you to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams are crucial for success in this role.
• Strong written communication abilities allowing you to produce clear executive-level reports are important attributes for this position.
