Operational Technology (OT) Specialist

As an Operational Technology Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in supporting production services by managing incidents, deploying enhancements, and providing expert guidance to users. This opportunity allows you to work with a global IT center of a multinational specialty material & glass manufacturer in Malaysia.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve monitoring critical applications, analysing performance metrics, creating insightful dashboards, and performing regular maintenance tasks. You will also coordinate rollout activities at new factories, gather user feedback for continuous improvement initiatives, manage containerisation deployments, ensure compliance with security standards, conduct thorough testing procedures, document systems meticulously, and deliver standard user training. Success in this role requires a keen eye for detail, strong communication skills, and a passion for supporting smart factory operations through reliable OT solutions.

• Manage incidents and changes using ITIL processes through ServiceNow, ensuring smooth service delivery for key users and application users.
• Provide dependable 2nd-level support for operational technology applications, addressing user queries and resolving technical issues promptly.
• Deploy bug fixes, configuration changes, and minor enhancements to maintain optimal performance of OT systems across multiple sites.
• Support rollout activities at new factories by coordinating with stakeholders and facilitating seamless integration of OT solutions.
• Gather requirements and user feedback for the consulting team, enabling continuous improvement of operational technology services.
• Monitor applications and infrastructure using specialised tools, analysing performance data to identify bottlenecks and recommend improvements.
• Create comprehensive dashboards and KPI reports that provide actionable insights into system performance and operational efficiency.
• Perform regular maintenance for OT applications, including master data updates based on service requests to ensure data integrity.
• Manage Kubernetes deployments and scaling activities while maintaining compliance with IT/OT security standards.
• Conduct testing in test environments as well as on-site, documenting systems according to Quality Management and GMP regulations.

Your proven experience as an Operational Technology Specialist will be demonstrated through your deep understanding of production services within industrial environments. You bring hands-on expertise in managing MES systems, monitoring tools, Linux administration, scripting languages, networking fundamentals, containerisation technologies, virtualisation platforms, cloud solutions, SQL databases, service provider collaboration, customer advisory roles, application management processes, business process alignment in smart factories, service management methodologies like PMI & ITIL, as well as proficiency in English. • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics or a comparable field is required for foundational knowledge in operational technology.
• At least three years of experience operating production services or operational services within manufacturing or industrial settings is essential.
• Initial experience dealing with service providers and advising customers demonstrates your ability to collaborate effectively with external partners.
• Proficiency with MES systems such as HydraX or Cronetwork enables you to support complex manufacturing execution processes.
• Expertise in monitoring and logging tools like Grafana or Kibana allows you to analyse system performance efficiently.
• Linux administration skills (preferably Debian) are crucial for managing OT application environments securely.
• Scripting abilities using Bash, Python or Perl facilitate automation of routine tasks for improved efficiency.
• Understanding networking fundamentals and integration knowledge supports seamless connectivity between OT systems.
• Experience with containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) as well as CI/CD pipelines ensures robust deployment practices.
• Familiarity with virtualization (VMware/KVM) and cloud platforms (Azure) expands your capability to manage diverse infrastructures.
• SQL database knowledge is important for maintaining master data integrity within OT applications.
• Strong communication skills paired with knowledge of application management processes enable effective interaction with users and stakeholders.
• Understanding business processes in smart factory contexts helps align OT solutions with organisational goals.
• Familiarity with service management methods such as PMI & ITIL provides structure for incident handling and change management.
