Data Engineer Consultant (Snowflake)

What you'll do:

As a Data Engineer Consultant – Snowflake based in Kuala Lumpur, you will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing secure cloud-native data solutions for clients across Southeast Asia and APAC. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve collaborating with analysts, architects, and business leaders to deliver scalable platforms that empower organisations to harness their data effectively. You will be involved from initial ingestion through transformation all the way to analytics and visualisation stages. Success in this role means not only building technically sound solutions but also fostering strong relationships with stakeholders by understanding their needs and translating them into practical outcomes. • Design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines across multiple cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, and GCP, ensuring seamless integration and high performance.
• Develop and optimise advanced Snowflake-based data solutions tailored for analytics and reporting needs of diverse clients.
• Construct reliable ETL/ELT pipelines and create analytics-ready data models that drive actionable insights for business stakeholders.
• Optimise cloud data platforms for enhanced performance, scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency by applying industry best practices.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into effective technical solutions that meet organisational goals.
• Contribute actively to initiatives around data governance, quality assurance, security protocols, and lineage tracking within client environments.
• Engage with cross-functional teams located throughout Australia and APAC to deliver cohesive project outcomes and foster knowledge sharing.
• Support pre-sales activities by participating in technical design workshops and delivering proof-of-concept (POC) engagements that demonstrate solution value.
• Champion the adoption of modern data stack tools such as dbt, Databricks, Power BI or similar technologies within client projects.

What you bring:

To excel as a Data Engineer Consultant – Snowflake, you will bring proven experience in designing sophisticated cloud-based solutions using Snowflake alongside other major platforms like AWS or Azure. Your background should include developing robust ETL/ELT pipelines and creating models optimised for analytics. You are comfortable navigating complex technical challenges while maintaining open lines of communication with both internal teams and external clients. Your familiarity with modern tools such as dbt or Databricks will allow you to integrate seamlessly into ongoing projects. Additionally, your understanding of governance frameworks ensures that every solution meets stringent security standards. Experience in consulting environments or supporting pre-sales activities will further strengthen your candidacy by demonstrating your ability to manage client relationships effectively.

• Minimum 4 years of hands-on experience in data engineering, analytics engineering or cloud-focused roles where you have delivered end-to-end solutions.
• Proven expertise working directly with Snowflake as a core technology for building scalable cloud data platforms (mandatory).
• Advanced SQL skills coupled with a solid understanding of designing effective data models for analytics use cases.
• Demonstrated ability to architect solutions in a cloud-agnostic manner using AWS, Azure or GCP environments.
• Familiarity with modern data stack tools such as dbt, Databricks, Power BI or similar technologies that enhance analytics capabilities.
• Comprehensive understanding of best practices related to data governance, security standards, DevOps processes and quality assurance.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities combined with clear communication skills for engaging both technical experts and non-technical stakeholders alike.
• Flexibility to collaborate across different time zones while being based in Malaysia.
• Consulting or client-facing experience is highly desirable as it enables you to manage stakeholder expectations effectively.
• Exposure to pre-sales activities including solution architecture or POC delivery is considered advantageous for this role.
