Head of AI
A leading organisation in Kuala Lumpur is seeking a visionary Head of Artificial Intelligence to drive the identification, development, and deployment of advanced AI technologies that will transform business operations and deliver measurable value to stakeholders. This pivotal role offers you the opportunity to shape the future of digital innovation by bridging emerging AI capabilities with real-world business needs, ensuring solutions are ethical, scalable, and aligned with long-term strategic goals. As the Head of Artificial Intelligence, you will be at the forefront of technological advancement, collaborating with diverse teams and external partners to create impactful AI-driven solutions. If you are passionate about leveraging artificial intelligence to foster operational excellence and competitive advantage, this is your chance to make a significant impact in a supportive and forward-thinking environment.
What you'll do:
As Head of Artificial Intelligence based in Kuala Lumpur, you will play a central role in driving the organisation’s digital transformation agenda. Your day-to-day activities will involve setting strategic direction for artificial intelligence initiatives by developing comprehensive roadmaps that anticipate market shifts and technological advancements. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams internally—spanning IT infrastructure experts to data scientists—and externally with research partners or technology vendors to ensure every solution is robustly designed for integration into existing business processes. Your responsibilities extend beyond project oversight; you will champion a culture where knowledge sharing is encouraged through regular workshops or hackathons while also ensuring all deployments meet rigorous ethical standards. By establishing clear metrics for success and iterating based on real-world outcomes, you will help maximise the value delivered by each initiative. Additionally, your expertise will be crucial in navigating complex regulatory landscapes so that every solution remains compliant. Ultimately, your leadership will empower teams across the organisation to embrace innovative thinking while delivering tangible results.
- Lead the creation and execution of an artificial intelligence innovation roadmap that aligns with organisational objectives, market dynamics, and technological advancements to ensure prioritisation of transformative projects.
- Continuously scan the digital landscape for new opportunities in artificial intelligence by assessing emerging technologies such as machine learning, generative AI, and natural language processing while evaluating their feasibility, risks, and potential return on investment through proof-of-concept initiatives.
- Partner with cross-functional internal teams including IT, data science, product development, and business units as well as external stakeholders like vendors and research institutions to collaboratively design AI solutions that fit seamlessly within current infrastructures.
- Oversee end-to-end delivery of artificial intelligence projects from ideation through prototyping to full-scale deployment while maintaining strict adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Foster a culture of innovation by mentoring junior staff members, organising engaging workshops, hackathons, and knowledge-sharing sessions focused on best practices in artificial intelligence and ethical considerations.
- Establish clear key performance indicators for all artificial intelligence initiatives; monitor post-implementation performance rigorously; iterate on solutions using data-driven insights to maximise value while proactively addressing any issues.
- Stay up-to-date with global trends in artificial intelligence by attending industry conferences, publishing thought leadership pieces, and representing the organisation at digital innovation forums both locally and internationally.
- Manage budgets effectively while allocating resources optimally across multiple projects; lead a team of artificial intelligence specialists where required; promote ongoing professional development within your team.
What you bring:
To excel as Head of Artificial Intelligence you will bring a wealth of hands-on experience managing sophisticated projects powered by machine learning or generative models. Your background should reflect not only deep technical expertise but also an ability to see how these innovations can be harnessed strategically for organisational benefit. You thrive when working collaboratively across departments—translating complex ideas into practical solutions that resonate with both technical colleagues and senior business leaders alike. Your approach is grounded in ethical responsibility: you understand how critical it is for every deployment to comply fully with privacy regulations while actively mitigating bias wherever possible. You are comfortable navigating ambiguity—adapting quickly when circumstances change—and have demonstrated resilience under pressure without losing sight of long-term goals. With advanced academic credentials complemented by relevant certifications where applicable, you are committed not just to your own professional growth but also nurturing talent within your team through mentorship or structured training sessions.
- Extensive experience—ideally five years or more—in developing, implementing or managing projects driven by artificial intelligence technologies such as machine learning models or generative AI applications.
- Demonstrated ability to align complex technical initiatives with broader organisational strategies while anticipating market trends and translating these into actionable plans.
- Proven track record leading cross-functional teams comprising technical experts as well as business leaders; adept at fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders including external partners.
- Comprehensive project management skills encompassing Agile methodologies; experienced in budgeting for large-scale technology projects; consistently delivers measurable results within tight deadlines.
- Hands-on proficiency with modern natural language processing tools or large language model platforms such as AWS Sagemaker, GCP Vertex AI, Huggingface, spaCY; familiarity with LlamaIndex or Haystack; practical experience with prompt engineering techniques.
- Working knowledge of adjacent technologies including Python programming language frameworks (FastAPI), package managers (pip), vector databases (pinecone, pgvector), orchestration tools (uv), monitoring platforms (langfuse), retrieval-augmented generation tools (Qdrant), logging utilities (helicone) or web crawling libraries (firecrawl); understanding fundamentals of vector-based search is advantageous.
- Deep awareness of ethical considerations surrounding artificial intelligence including bias mitigation strategies; thorough understanding of data privacy regulations such as GDPR or CCPA; able to ensure responsible deployment at scale.
- A proactive mindset characterised by curiosity about emerging technologies; proven ability to drive experimentation through rapid prototyping or proof-of-concept exercises.
- Exceptional communication skills—both verbal and written—with capacity to articulate complex technical concepts clearly for non-technical audiences; skilled at influencing decision-makers across all levels of an organisation.
- Adaptable approach suited for environments where priorities may shift rapidly due to evolving business needs or technological advances; resilient under pressure while maintaining focus on long-term objectives.
- Advanced degree—preferably Master’s or PhD—in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering or related discipline; certifications in artificial intelligence/machine learning/project management (such as PMP or AWS Certified Machine Learning) are highly regarded.
