Our client is seeking a Country Head of Sales for a prominent shipping line, based in Klang and overseeing several stated in West Malaysia.

What you'll do:

As Country Head of Sales, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the commercial success of the organisation across West Malaysia.

• Develop comprehensive sales strategies tailored to achieve ambitious volume and revenue targets across West Malaysia’s core trade lanes.
• Drive market expansion initiatives by identifying new business opportunities with direct shippers and freight forwarders, ensuring sustainable growth.
• Manage and nurture key accounts throughout West Malaysia, focusing on long-term customer retention through regular engagement and relationship building.
• Build strong connections with major customers, stakeholders, and decision-makers by conducting frequent visits and maintaining open lines of communication.
• Oversee overall sales performance in several states within West Malaysia while monitoring competitor activities and evolving market demand trends.
• Collaborate closely with headquarters teams to ensure pricing strategies remain competitive and aligned with market realities.
• Provide valuable market feedback to support pricing decisions, yield management efforts, contract negotiations, and participate actively in tenders and annual rate discussions.
• Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing sales team across multiple locations in West Malaysia while fostering a supportive culture aligned with company direction.

What you bring:

To excel as Country Head of Sales, you bring extensive experience from within the container shipping sector along with robust academic credentials.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Logistics Management, Maritime Studies or a related discipline is required for this position.
• A minimum of 8–12 years’ experience within the shipping industry specifically within container shipping lines
• At least 3–5 years’ proven track record in managerial or leadership positions overseeing multi-location teams is necessary.
• Deep understanding of the West Malaysian shipping market landscape with particular expertise in Intra-Asia trade dynamics is highly valued.
• Comprehensive knowledge of container shipping operations including trade lanes management and port logistics is expected.
• Demonstrated ability managing relationships with forwarders, shippers, NVOCCs (Non-Vessel Operating Common Carriers), and other supply chain partners is crucial.
• Familiarity with pricing structures as well as hands-on experience negotiating contracts and volume-based agreements is important.
• Exceptional negotiation skills combined with clear communication abilities enable effective stakeholder management at all levels.
