Specification Manager (Construction)

As Specification Manager, you will be at the forefront of driving business expansion in by leading a talented team focused on specification management within the construction industry. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve mentoring staff, overseeing project pipelines, developing engagement strategies for key stakeholders, coordinating technical presentations, advocating for premium products, managing negotiations, representing the company as an expert in your field, collaborating internally to refine service offerings, maintaining vital external relationships, and supporting overall growth initiatives. - Guide, mentor, and supervise the Specification Specialist team as they carry out specification and sales activities for construction projects within assigned regions, ensuring targets and KPIs are met.
- Monitor and track the specification pipeline regularly, analysing sales conversion rates to ensure alignment with overall company objectives.
- Develop and implement segment strategies as well as stakeholder engagement programmes that promote products and solutions while sustaining both specification and sales pipelines.
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee technical talks and presentations for project stakeholders such as architects, consultants, engineers (AEC), quantity surveyors (QS), and building owners.
- Advocate for premium tier products by identifying upselling opportunities on projects, closely following up on leads to maximise specification conversion.
- Manage the team's specification pipeline process by participating in technical negotiations with key stakeholders throughout each stage of the project lifecycle.
- Represent the company as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) within assigned construction sub-segments, collaborating with internal teams to develop best practices and service offerings tailored to industry needs.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to share insights, promote innovative solutions, and ensure consistent delivery of high-quality service offers required by specific sub-segments.
- Maintain strong relationships with external partners including architects and consultants to foster trust and encourage repeat business.
- Support the expansion plan by identifying new business opportunities within key regions through strategic networking and market analysis.
What you bring:
To excel as Specification Manager, you will bring proven experience from previous roles within specification management or technical sales—ideally gained in the building materials or construction sector. Your educational background will provide a solid foundation for understanding complex project requirements. You will possess excellent communication abilities that enable you to present ideas persuasively during stakeholder meetings or technical talks. Your interpersonal skills will help you nurture collaborative relationships both inside the organisation and externally with architects or consultants. - Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering or a related discipline is essential for understanding complex technical requirements within construction projects.
- At least five years of experience in specification management or technical sales roles within the building materials or construction industry is required to ensure familiarity with industry standards.
- Comprehensive knowledge of design processes and construction methodologies including specification writing enables effective communication with project stakeholders.
- Exceptional communication skills are necessary for presenting technical information clearly during talks or negotiations with architects, consultants, engineers (AEC), QSs or building owners.
- Proven ability to build lasting relationships with architects and consultants helps foster trust while driving repeat business opportunities.
- Strong interpersonal skills allow you to collaborate effectively both internally with colleagues and externally with clients or partners.
