What you'll do:
As a Proposal Sales and Application Manager based in Kuala Lumpur, you will play a pivotal role in driving the success of complex projects across South East Asia. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve managing the entire proposal process—from reviewing inquiries to preparing final submissions—while collaborating closely with regional teams. You will engage directly with customers to analyse their needs, participate in solution discussions that add value to their operations, and develop bespoke technical-commercial offerings. By coordinating between clients and product centres on key matters, you will ensure seamless communication throughout the tendering process. Your expertise will be instrumental in preparing accurate cost calculations and proposal documents while supporting sales teams during negotiations. Additionally, you will gather market intelligence to inform strategic decisions and maintain rigorous adherence to quality standards. - Lead the complete proposal cycle from initial inquiry review through to final submission, ensuring all stages are managed efficiently and collaboratively.
- Interpret customer specifications accurately and translate them into clear engineering and commercial requirements that meet client needs.
- Participate actively in customer needs analysis sessions and value-added solution discussions to help shape project specifications and scope.
- Develop technically optimised and commercially competitive solutions tailored to each client’s unique requirements.
- Coordinate regionally between customers and Product Centres on technical-commercial matters to ensure alignment and smooth tendering processes.
- Prepare detailed cost calculations, pricing recommendations, and comprehensive proposal documentation for submission.
- Support Sales Managers and Business Development Managers during technical-commercial meetings and negotiations by providing expert guidance.
- Collect market intelligence, monitor competitor activities, and track technology trends relevant to customer solutions and proposals.
- Ensure all proposals adhere strictly to quality standards, governance protocols, approval workflows, and risk assessment procedures.
What you bring:
The ideal Proposal Sales and Application Manager brings extensive experience from similar roles within the energy or industrial sectors. Your background includes hands-on involvement with compressor systems or rotating equipment—particularly in upstream & FPSO projects—supported by a relevant engineering degree. You possess advanced communication skills in both English and Mandarin which enable you to build strong relationships with stakeholders across South East Asia. Your ability to coordinate multiple proposals concurrently demonstrates your dependability under pressure while your familiarity with SAP ensures efficient workflow management. You thrive in environments where priorities shift rapidly yet remain committed to delivering precise results. - Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Process Engineering with substantial technical exposure relevant to industrial applications.
- 5-8 years’ experience in proposals, application engineering, sales engineering or tendering roles within energy or industrial sectors.
- Comprehensive understanding of compressor systems, rotating equipment or energy/industrial solutions applicable to upstream & FPSO projects for compression systems.
- Excellent English communication skills; proficiency in reading, writing and speaking Mandarin is essential for effective stakeholder engagement.
- Strong coordination abilities with proven capacity to manage multiple proposals simultaneously while maintaining high standards of accuracy.
- Experience working with SAP systems alongside structured governance processes for proposal management.
- Ability to adapt quickly within environments characterised by shifting priorities without compromising quality or deadlines.
- Outgoing personality with proactive motivation to connect with diverse stakeholders across regions.
- Organisational skills marked by high attention to detail; solution-driven mindset comfortable navigating technical complexity.
