Our client in Penang is on the hunt for a proactive and innovative Business Development Manager to lead new project development within the tourism sector.

This role is perfect for a strategic thinker with a robust background in identifying, developing, and launching new projects that drive business growth and enhance tourism offerings. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading new project initiatives, from conception to execution, ensuring alignment with market trends and organisational goals.

What you'll do:

As a Business Development Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our client's future in the tourism sector. Your primary responsibility will be to spearhead new project development. You will identify potential project opportunities, assess their feasibility, and align them with the company's strategic objectives. Your innovative thinking will be crucial in generating project ideas that resonate with current tourism trends and meet client needs. You will also create detailed business cases for these projects, presenting your findings to senior management. Once approved, you will oversee these projects' entire lifecycle - from planning to execution. Your ability to manage cross-functional teams will ensure successful project delivery. Furthermore, your knack for building relationships will enable you to engage effectively with key stakeholders.

  • Develop and execute strategies for new project initiatives in the tourism industry.
  • Conduct comprehensive market research to identify emerging trends, opportunities, and gaps in the tourism sector.
  • Generate innovative project ideas and concepts that align with current tourism trends, client needs and organisational goals.
  • Create detailed business cases for new projects, including market analysis, financial projections, sensitivity analysis, financial modelling, return on investment (ROI), risk assessments and mitigation strategies and resources requirement.
  • Oversee the entire lifecycle of new projects, from planning and development to execution and evaluation.
  • Manage project implementation processes, ensuring timely execution, adherence to budgets, and alignment with strategic goals.
  • Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the success of new projects.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including industry partners, destination management organisations and local businesses.

What you bring:

As an experienced Business Development Manager in the tourism or hospitality industry, you bring a wealth of knowledge to this role. Your strong background in managing multiple projects simultaneously demonstrates your ability to juggle various tasks without compromising quality. Your excellent analytical abilities allow you to make informed decisions that drive business growth. Your proficiency in project management software and tools ensures efficient project execution. Moreover, your exceptional communication, negotiation, and presentation skills enable you to engage effectively with various stakeholders. Lastly, your deep understanding of tourism trends, market dynamics, and consumer behaviour allows you to align projects with market needs.

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in business development or project management within the travel and tourism or hospitality industry.
  • Strong project management skills with a proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent analytical abilities.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Deep understanding of tourism trends, market dynamics and consumer behaviour.
