Our client is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Commercial Engineer with a focus on Solar Photovoltaic (PV) systems. This role offers an exciting opportunity to secure new sales in a fresh market, providing effective technical and sales support to customers. The successful candidate will be customer-focused, able to provide solutions despite challenges due to site environment, government restrictions, and budget limitations. This role requires frequent business travel and overseeing project activities, offering some flexibility for fixed day / work hours / location changes.

What you'll do:

As a Commercial Engineer (Solar), your primary role will be driving sales from a selected group of targeted clients within the Commercial & Industrial segment. You will be expected to understand their business needs deeply, developing innovative value-added solutions that exceed their expectations. Your responsibilities will also include managing proposal costs and deadlines, ensuring clear communication with project delivery and proposal teams according to client requirements. You'll have the opportunity to develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and business partners, providing engineering, construction, and professional consulting services in a trusted advisory role.

  • Drive sales from a selected group of targeted clients.
  • Understand the clients’ business needs and develop innovative value-added solutions.
  • Manage proposal costs and deadlines.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and business partners.
  • Proactively network with clients, business partners and industry partners.
  • Maintain awareness of industry economic information and project development information.
  • Work well in a matrixed work environment.
  • Collaborate closely with operational teams.
  • Monitor market development on Solar PV and relevant competitor activities.
  • Work with marketing team to develop the Solar PV marketing strategy.

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for the Commercial Engineer (Solar) position brings a recognized tertiary qualification in Engineering / Business Management along with at least 5 years of relevant commercial sales experience. A strong track record in sales and business development within the Solar PV or renewable energy related industry is essential. Experience in tendering and bidding for new projects is highly advantageous as is having good organizational skills and multi-project management knowledge. Excellent communication skills are key for this role as you'll be building relationships with various stakeholders.

  • Recognized tertiary qualification In Engineering / Business Management
  • At least 5 years relevant commercial sales experience
  • Strong sales and business development track record in the Solar PV or renewable energy related industry
  • Experience in tendering and bidding for new projects
  • Good organization skills, multi-project management knowledge
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills
  • Ability to coordinate to lead/supervise a small team
  • Microsoft Suite Office skills (Word, Excel, Power Point) at intermediate level
