In 2020, the continuing of digitalisation in Malaysia will drive demand beyond the technology sector as companies seek professionals to bring fresh ideas and perspectives to accelerate digitalisation efforts. According to the survey, professionals looking to stay in their current jobs can expect an increment from 3-8% while those moving jobs can expect an increment of 15-20%, and if professionals possesses niche skill sets can expect up to 30% increment. Career progression and a good working culture and environment will also be a top driver in retaining talents aside from the competitive remuneration.

“Talents with niche skills who are changing jobs are looking at an increment of up to 30% due to demand outstripping supply. Professionals in procurement and logistics (89%), accounting and finance (75%) and engineering (75%) are optimistic about opportunities in their industry as they have been early adopters of technology and are experiencing the middle wave where digitalisation has already begun to impact the way they do their job,” said Kimberlyn Lu, country manager of Robert Walters Malaysia.
