A large plantation company is looking for an ESG Manager to develop and implement the social, environmental, and economic sustainability policies within the organisation’s practices. In this job, you will report to the Head of Sustainability.
About the ESG Manager Role:
In this position, you will be responsible for developing long-term intervention plans for organisation to achieve the state of being carbon neutral.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce the Sustainability Statement by compiling data on material issues gathered from information owners of responsible Business Units, planning and overseeing the writing as well as reviewing of the Sustainability Statement, and ensuring the Statement fulfils Bursa Malaysia’s requirements
- Lead the development, execution, and management of strategic sustainability initiatives, including the Sustainability Strategy (Five-year Roadmap) and related processes (including sustainability reporting, communication, and promotions), and to ensure a standard and consistent adaptation Group-wide, with the support/buy-in of the Board of Directors and Management Committee
- Lead and guide the sustainability team in carrying out audits and preparation of external audits for RSPO/ISPO/MSPO Certification
- Coordinate ESG activities with the various external parties and internal parties e.g., HODs and data focal/owners as part of reporting submission to fulfil all requirements such as GRI, FTSE, TCFD, investor and customer requirements
- Lead GHG accounting activities for the Group
- Support and coordinate roll-out of ESG strategies across all functions and business units
- Monitor and advise on the environmental risks and opportunities on business activities to ensure compliance and continuous improvement. This includes matters such as Climate Change, Energy Management, Biodiversity, Waste Reduction, etc.
- Lead projects on decarbonisation leading towards carbon neutral/net zero aspirations
- Conduct research and coordination activities on carbon trading
- Compile regulatory reports and data relating to environmental matters.
- Organise and carry out staff training on ESG
- Provide support and coordination on all related ESG activities
- Derive material understanding for the organisation leading to the effective and efficient development of Sustainability strategies and communications – through benchmarking exercises, internal assessments, leading of stakeholder engagement groups and conduct of workshops
- Effectively communicate and present at different working levels (including Board, Managing Director, senior management, middle management, executives)
- Serve as primary contact for questions and/or suggestions regarding Sustainability and sustainability reporting
To be successful in this role, you must have prior hands-on corporate sustainability experience, preferably within the plantation industry.
Key Requirements:
- Degree in Environmental Studies/Sustainable Development/Environmental Science/Biodiversity/Conservation or related field of study
- Minimum of five years of experience working in the sustainability department of large organisations
- Prior experience in the plantation and palm oil industry is highly preferable
- Knowledge in RSPO, MSPO and ISPO standards and the auditing processes would be highly advantageous
- Familiarity with BURSA requirements, GRI standards, FTSE4GOOD and UN Sustainability goals are crucial
- Experience with ISO14001 environment management standard would be an added advantage
- Good understanding of High Conservation Value (HCV), High Carbon Stock (HCS), Social Impact Assessment (SIA), Land Use Change Analysis (LUCA), and Remediation and Compensation Procedure (RaCP)
- High level of sustainability knowledge and expertise in sustainability management and reporting, environment management systems and environmental performance, occupational health along with safety management systems and performance
- Strong capabilities in communication and coordination, planning and organisation, judgement and decision-making, information research analysis, interpersonal relationships and solving complex problems
- Efficient, strong work ethics – able to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to contribute to the effective delivery of project deliverables outputs and support the project team members where necessary
- Ability to analyse sustainability data and information, create interesting and engaging findings and present the information in a concise manner
