Assistant Sustainability Manager

A renowned retail organisation is looking for an Assistant Sustainability Manager to develop and implement the social, environmental, and economic sustainability policies. In this job, you will report to the Head of Sustainability.

About the Assistant Sustainability Manager Role:
In this position, you will be responsible for the planning and execution of effective sustainability strategies and programmes to build and promote sustainability initiatives in Malaysia.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, implement, and evaluate programmes that support the social, environmental, and economic sustainability objectives of the company
• Drive the implementation of sustainable development strategies activities that include driving impactful campaigns to highlight the breadth, diversity, and success of the company’s corporate responsibility programmes to create positive social impact to maximise brand equity
• Lead the implementation of sustainability management through performance tracking, monitoring, verification of data and reporting through collaboration with stakeholders i.e., Product, Property, Safety and Security and Business Integrity to ensure sustainability strategies are aligned to the targets and on track for timely reporting
• Collaborate and liaise with relevant departments, vendors, agencies, NGOs in Sustainability projects and initiatives involving all three sustainability pillars (People, Planet, Society)
• Assist the sustainability secretariat on meeting arrangements, reporting and data compilation for annual report, documentation for awards’ submission, regulator’s requirements, and other related matters
• Coordinate with all the relevant departments and ensure that all deliverables meet the set expectations and deadlines
• Prepare sustainability-related presentations and organise suitable training sessions on sustainability for the senior management team
• Implement the company’s employee environmental volunteer programme
• Work closely with Communications team on internal and external key messaging and Customer Team in creating exciting content for programme campaigns
• Drive employee engagement related to sustainability communications and education to ensure colleagues are engaged with the organisation’s sustainability efforts and collaborate with Communications and People team to develop training materials and programmes

To be successful in this role, you must have prior hands-on sustainability reporting and advisory experience.

Key Requirements:

• Degree in Environmental Studies/Sustainable Development/Mass Communications or related field
• Minimum of five years of experience working in the sustainability or corporate social responsibility department
• Prior experience in handling sustainability within a retail company is ideal
• High-level of sustainability knowledge and expertise in sustainability management and reporting, environment management systems and environmental performance, occupational health along with safety management systems and performance
• Strong understanding of the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) framework
• Familiarity with BURSA requirements, GRI standards, FTSE4GOOD and UN Sustainability goals are crucial
• Strong passion for sustainability, climate action and community work
• Efficient, strong work ethics – able to work in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to contribute to the effective delivery of project deliverables outputs and support the project team members where necessary
• Ability to analyse sustainability data and information, create interesting and engaging findings and present the information in a concise manner
• Excellent fluency in English (written and spoken)
