Legal Manager (IT/Tech)

Our client, a reputable financial institution in KL is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Legal Counsel with a focus on IT and Tech. This role offers an exciting opportunity to provide legal support through advisory work, review, and drafting of transactional/product documentation to various business units and banking operations. The successful candidate will be reporting directly to the Head of Legal, offering a chance to make a significant impact within the organisation.

What you'll do:

As a Legal Counsel specialising in IT/Tech, your role will be pivotal in providing comprehensive legal support across the organisation. You will be responsible for reviewing and drafting a variety of documents including IT contracts and commercial contracts. Your expertise will be crucial in preparing analytical reviews and making well-considered recommendations on lawful content. You will also have the opportunity to represent the Legal Department in working groups where your expert opinion will be highly valued.

• Provide sound legal advice, guidance, and support to various business/operational units within the organisation
• Actively participate in project support through provision of legal matters
• Review and draft various documentation, including IT contracts, commercial contracts, loan documentation, product and marketing collaterals
• Prepare analytical reviews of available information and suggest well-considered recommendations on lawful contents with multiple demands
• Counsel operating units on potential legal issues/opinions to ensure the organisation’s interests are protected from a legal perspective
• Represent the Legal Department as a member of working groups where legal representation is required

What you bring:

As our ideal candidate for the Legal Counsel (IT/Tech) position, you bring along a wealth of experience from your law degree from a reputable university and at least 8 years of solid experience in general practice. Your portfolio showcases your expertise in areas such as banking, conveyancing, corporate finance or restructuring. Your excellent command over English language both written and spoken coupled with your ability to independently start projects makes you stand out. Your keen eye for detail and strong analytical research skills will be invaluable in this role.

• Law graduate from a reputable university with at least 8 years of solid experience in general practice with an established legal firm in Malaysia
• Experience handling portfolios in any one or more relevant areas such as banking, conveyancing, corporate finance or restructuring
• In-house corporate counsel experience with knowledge of banking and financial services is a plus
• Business and legal proficiency in English (written/spoken)
• Independent self-starter with good interpersonal skills
• Detail oriented with good analytical research skills
• Ability to make practical evaluations of risk and apply a commercially savvy approach to legal matters
