An international law firm with regional headquarters in Kuala Lumpur is recruiting an Associate to supplement it’s EMEA and global privacy & data protection practice.
Our client is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Associate to join their team, specializing in privacy & data protection.

What you'll do:
As an Associate in privacy & data protection, your role will be multifaceted and diverse responsibilities will be key to your success in this role.
The primary responsibilities are:
- Drafting, negotiating, and reviewing data processing agreements, contracts, and vendor agreements.
- Conducting privacy and data protection laws compliance audits and preparing gap analysis reports for companies.
- Drafting internal data protection policies, procedures, and training materials.
- Advising on data breach investigations, notifications, and Data Office filings.
- Handling cross-border data transfer applications and compliance with Data Office regulations.
- Representing clients before regulators and managing data privacy disputes.
- Conducting data privacy due diligence during M&A and investment transactions.
- Advising on complex data subject requests and related disputes.
- Providing customised board training on data protection and policy revisions
What you bring:
The ideal candidate for the Associate position brings either passion and interest or a wealth of experience in various aspects of privacy & data protection to advise a wide range of clientele.
You must possess the following:
- 2 – 3 PQE and admitted to the High Court of Malaya.
- Sound technical legal knowledge in privacy & data protection laws and strong knowledge of drafting internal data protection policies.
- Proven experience in conducting privacy & data protection laws compliance audits.
- Experience in advising on data breach investigations.
- Ability to handle cross-border data transfer applications.
- Experience in representing clients before regulators.
- Proven track record of conducting due diligence during M&A transactions.
- Ability to advise on complex data subject requests.
- Experience in providing board training on data protection.
