A globally respected non-profit organisation is seeking a Head of Legal and Compliance to join their Kuala Lumpur office. What you'll do:

As Head of Legal and Compliance, you will be entrusted with safeguarding the organisation’s interests through expert legal guidance and proactive risk management. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve:

  • Oversee all legal affairs of the organisation and its subsidiaries, ensuring alignment with international regulatory frameworks and organisational objectives.
  • Develop, review, and maintain standard templates for key agreements including Non-Disclosure Agreements, consultancy and procurement contracts, funding and grant agreements, collaboration and partnership frameworks, and other operational documents to promote consistency and mitigate risk.
  • Lead the periodic review and enhancement of the organisation’s global legal and governance documents such as the Constitution/Statutes, Membership Rules, Privacy Policies, System Terms of Use, and relevant insurance and compliance frameworks.
  • Provide comprehensive legal advice and support to various global teams — including Membership, Finance, Human Resources, Compliance, and Operations — across jurisdictions such as North and Latin America, Europe, the UK, and Asia.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with statutory, corporate, and secretarial obligations across multiple regions, including Malaysia, Indonesia, China, the United Kingdom, and other territories where the organisation operates.
  • Work closely with senior leadership and cross-departmental teams to ensure that legal perspectives are integrated into business decisions, policies, and strategic initiatives.
  • Identify legal and operational risks, propose pragmatic mitigation strategies, and strengthen internal awareness through training and best-practice sharing across global offices.

What you bring:

You will bring extensive legal and compliance expertise to the organisation. Key requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B or equivalent) from a recognised university with a strong academic background is essential for this position.
  • Professional legal qualification such as Bar admission or jurisdiction-specific certification (e.g., CLP in Malaysia) is required for practising law within relevant territories.
  • At least 10 – 15 years’ experience as an in-house legal counsel or similar role within international organisations is necessary for success.
  • Proven expertise in corporate and commercial law including contract drafting, negotiation, compliance management, regulatory affairs, litigation oversight (advantageous), intellectual property rights, employment law, governance structures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, with strong interpersonal acumen.
  • Collaborative and solution-oriented with strong project management skills, keen attention to detail, and a proven ability to thrive in fast-paced, growth-oriented global environments.
