Legal Manager (Penang Based)

You will be responsible for providing comprehensive legal advice across workforce and labour issues, corporate law, construction projects, government relations, and contract negotiations.

What you'll do:

As Legal Manager you will play a pivotal role in shaping the organisation’s approach to legal risk management. Key responsibilities:

• Provide day-to-day legal counsel across multiple departments including HR, Admin & General Affairs, Sales, Operations, and Quality to ensure consistent legal support throughout the organisation.
• Advise on a wide range of legal issues related to labour law, immigration matters, facility construction projects, corporate governance practices, and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Identify potential legal risks facing the business and recommend effective risk mitigation strategies that protect both the company’s interests and its workforce.
• Draft, review, and negotiate various contracts and commercial agreements while ensuring compliance with relevant legal standards and corporate policies.
• Manage the full lifecycle of contracts from initial negotiation through stakeholder engagement to final execution and ongoing monitoring.
• Monitor changes in key laws and regulations such as the Employment Act, Companies Act, Industrial Relations Act, OSHA, PDPA, and ensure timely updates to company policies
• Support implementation of internal compliance programmes including MACC Act compliance by developing procedures and conducting regular reviews
• Assist in the development and revision of internal legal policies to reflect current best practices and regulatory requirements.
• Conduct engaging legal training sessions for staff on topics such as compliance obligations, risk management strategies, and other relevant legal subjects.
• Act as the primary point of contact for all legal matters at the Penang facility while liaising with external counsel, regulatory authorities (MIDA, MITI, IRB), and government bodies as needed.

What you bring:

You will bring a wealth of legal experience to this role.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) with Admission to the Malaysian Bar
• At least 7- years of general legal experience ideally gained within corporate or commercial law settings; prior in-house counsel experience is highly desirable for understanding business needs
• Experience working within manufacturing or industrial environments is preferred
• Exposure to multi-jurisdictional or multinational compliance issues
• Strong understanding of Malaysian corporate law as well as labour law and commercial law
• Proficiency in contract drafting techniques coupled with negotiation skills
• High ethical standards combined with discretion and integrity
• Demonstrated analytical thinking abilities along with strategic problem-solving skills
• Superior communication capabilities paired with stakeholder management expertise
