Legal Manager
Our client is on the lookout for a Legal Manager with a focus on Retail / FMCG. The successful candidate will be part of a team with a regional scope covering South East Asia, Oceania, and India, supporting the expanding business needs of the company's brands and supply chain operations.
As a Legal Manager, your role will be versatile and dynamic. Key responsibilities:
- Provide timely and practical legal advice and support to various business units and corporate functions, ensuring alignment with company objectives.
- Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a wide range of commercial agreements to safeguard the company’s legal and commercial interests.
- Monitor and assess legal and regulatory developments across relevant jurisdictions, advising the business on potential impacts and compliance requirements.
- Handle communications and manage queries with governmental and regulatory authorities, ensuring proper representation and timely responses.
- Support the Intellectual Property team in matters related to brand protection, trademark registration, and enforcement strategies.
- Work closely with global headquarters on the rollout and localization of corporate plans, programs, and policies in the region.
- Take the lead in coordinating with company secretaries across various group entities to ensure compliance with corporate governance obligations.
- Select, instruct, and supervise external legal counsel as needed, ensuring quality, cost-effective legal representation.
- Manage and oversee the resolution of disputes, litigation, and complaints, mitigating legal and reputational risks.
- Maintain and regularly update the regional contract database, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and compliance with record-keeping standards.
What you bring:
The ideal candidate for this Legal Manager role will bring a wealth of skills to the table. Key requirement:
- Law degree and Bar admission in a Commonwealth jurisdiction.
- Minimum 3+ years' PQE in corporate/commercial law, with experience in both international law firms and in-house at a multinational.
- Skilled in corporate transactions, with exposure to regional work in the retail/FMCG sector.
- Knowledgeable in privacy laws; confident advising on data collection and use.
- Strong analytical, drafting, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Fluent in English and Bahasa Melayu; effective communicator with internal and external stakeholders.
- Commercially savvy with sound legal risk assessment and strategic thinking.
- Self-driven, thrives under pressure, and excels in fast-paced environments.
- Adaptable with experience in organizational change and stakeholder management.
- Team-oriented with a collaborative mindset and cross-cultural competence.
