Deputy Head, Legal

Our client is seeking a Deputy Head of Legal to join their dynamic team. This role covers Legal and Regulatory matters in relation to general insurance. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of contract law, privacy law, contract management, legal risk mitigation, dispute resolution and regulatory advisory. This role involves providing strategic legal and regulatory guidance on a wide range of insurance related matters, overseeing contractual negotiations, dealing with the regulator, and handling regulatory documentation.

What you'll do:

As the Deputy Head of Legal, you will be instrumental in shaping the company's legal strategy. You will provide crucial legal advice to senior management and project teams, leading the drafting and negotiation of commercial contracts. Your expertise in corporate governance will ensure that the company meets its requirements while your skills in dispute resolution will help manage any arising issues. You will also play a key role in identifying potential legal risks and implementing strategies to mitigate them. Furthermore, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate records of all legal matters.

• Provide legal / regulatory advice and strategic guidance to senior management, project teams, business / functional units regarding insurance.
• Lead the drafting, review, and negotiation of various commercial contracts.
• Oversee the company’s corporate governance requirements.
• Manage and resolve disputes related to complaints and/or claims.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate legal risks associated with the insurance business / proposal.
• Provide training and development to internal stakeholders on legal and regulatory issues related to insurance as applicable.
• Maintain accurate records of legal matters and advise on reporting obligations as required by regulatory bodies or stakeholders.

What you bring:

As the Deputy Head of Legal, your extensive knowledge in law coupled with your experience as an Advocate or an in-house counsel will be invaluable. Your ability to draft and vet corporate agreements along with providing sound legal opinions will be crucial for this role. Your proficiency in MS Office applications along with excellent command over Bahasa Malaysia and English will aid you in effectively communicating complex legal concepts. Your resourcefulness, result-orientation, responsibility along with excellent interpersonal skills make you an ideal fit for this role.

• Bachelor of Laws Degree from a recognized university and admitted as an Advocate & Solicitors of the High Court of Malaya.
• At least 3 years working experience in a legal firm as an Advocate or an in-house counsel of a company.
• Experience in drafting and vetting of corporate agreements and providing legal opinions and advice.
• PC literate in all MS Office applications.
• Excellent command of both written and spoken Bahasa Malaysia and English.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Resourceful, result-oriented and responsible.
