Our client is seeking an experienced APAC Privacy Counsel to join their Global Legal and Privacy functions. This is a new role that will provide additional privacy legal support for their businesses in Asia Pacific.

What you'll do:
As an APAC Privacy Counsel, your role will be pivotal in providing legal support to the organization at regional level. You will be responsible for:-
- Provide Strategic Privacy Advice: Offer commercially focused, pragmatic advice on compliance with international privacy laws in China, Malaysia, and India, and guide leadership on privacy risk management and controls.
- Draft, Review, and Negotiate Privacy Documents: Handle privacy-related documentation, contracts, privacy notices, and consent wordings; advise on privacy due diligence for third-party relationships.
- Lead Privacy Initiatives and Training: Act as a Subject Matter Expert on privacy initiatives, deliver in-house training, and embed Privacy by Design and other core principles across teams.
- Support Privacy Impact Assessments and Incident Management: Advise on privacy impact assessments, manage individual rights requests, and assist in investigating data incidents or breaches as needed.
- Monitor Legal and Regulatory Changes: Stay informed on privacy and data protection developments, assessing the impact on operations, and maintain up-to-date internal policies and controls.
- Collaborate and Report on Privacy Matters: Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, network with industry peers, and assist in preparing reports for management and Boards on privacy and data protection issues.
What you bring:
As an APAC Privacy Counsel, you bring a wealth of experience in the legal field. key requirements :-
- Qualified lawyer with a minimum of 5 – 8 years of post-qualification experience (PQE).
- Expertise in data protection laws (preferably Malaysia, China and India) , with a strong business acumen to navigate complex regulatory environments effectively.
- In-depth understanding of issues related to the use of personal data in advanced analytics and emerging technologies, demonstrating agility in adapting to new developments.
- Fluent in English. Candidate who proficient in Mandarin is viewed favourably to facilitate communication across regional stakeholders.
- Professional, approachable demeanour with a proactive attitude, fostering collaboration and effective problem-solving within teams.
