A well-established and reputable public listed company is currently recruiting for a high-calibre Head of Legal & Compliance. In this job, you will join their legal team based in their Kuala Lumpur HQ.

About the Head of Legal & Compliance Role:
In this business critical role, you will be responsible for managing all legal and regulatory compliance matters, be the main legal advisor and compliance expert for the company and its subsidiaries, ensuring regulatory compliance and promoting ethical business practices that the company operates in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations while mitigating legal risks and protecting the company's interests.

Key Responsibilities:

• Rendering legal support, expertise and/or advice to stakeholders, group management and the board on a broad range of legal matters, analysing and interpreting complex legal issues, contracts, and/or agreements to protect the company's rights and interests as well as conducting legal research and keeping the management abreast of changes to relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards
• Developing and/or implementing effective compliance programmes, policies, and procedures in line with local and international regulations as well as conducting periodic compliance audits and reviews to identify potential areas of risk and non-compliance
• Preparing, drafting, reviewing and/or negotiating a wide range of agreements and legal documents including but not limited to commercial agreements, partnerships, as well as client and vendor contracts to protect the company’s best interests and international regulations
• Developing standardised contract templates and streamline the contract review process as well as ensuring all contracts and legal documents are in compliance with relevant laws and regulations
• Identifying and/or assessing legal and compliance risks and working with relevant teams/collaborating with stakeholders to implement/develop risk management/mitigation strategies and action plans
• Developing and/or implementing a comprehensive compliance framework and strategy for the organisation, establishing compliance policies, procedures, and guidelines, and communicate them effectively to employees and stakeholders as well as overseeing compliance training programmes to enhance awareness and understanding of compliance requirements across the organisation
• Providing advice to stakeholders on corporate governance matters
• Liaising with regulatory bodies, government authorities, and other relevant agencies as required, overseeing internal investigations related to compliance issues, violations, fraud, potential misconduct/legal matters as well as collaborating with external lawyers (when needed) on complex disputes and legal proceedings (if any)
• Developing and/or maintaining data protection policies and procedures and ensuring compliance of data protection laws and regulations as well as overseeing implementation and adherence to the company's code of conduct

To succeed in this role, you will need to have the ability to work effectively and co-operatively with both the internal and external stakeholders, across borders and internal matrix.

Key Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree holder with a minimum of 10 - 15 years of relevant legal and compliance experience. Master's degree or an advanced degree or certification in Compliance, Corporate Governance/a related field/experience in a public listed company/a large corporate setting will be viewed as added advantage
• Strong knowledge of Malaysian laws and regulations as well as corporate governance practices
• Able to handle pressure and have critical decision-making ability, self-starter, able to make judgements and prioritise effectively to uphold ethical standards and promote culture of compliance
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of collaborating with different departments and stakeholders with the capacity to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
