The automotive arm of a local conglomerate in the retail, distribution and assembly business is looking for a Legal Counsel to ensure that legal rights of the business units are protected, liability and risk exposure limited, and laws and regulations complied with.
Our client is seeking a dedicated and meticulous Legal Counsel for it’s legal team to provide legal support to various business units and ensure the protection of legal rights and compliance with laws and regulations.

What you'll do:
As a Legal Counsel, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding the interests of our client's business units. This role requires someone who is meticulous, has strong communication skills, and can identify and highlight legal issues effectively.
The primary responsibilities are:
- Drafting and reviewing agreements to protect and enforce operating units’ legal rights, while minimizing any legal risks or breaches of law/contract
- Providing practical legal advice to operating units as needed
- Preparing responses to customer letters on behalf of operating units
- Creating documentation/reports related to legal matters
- Collaborating with external legal counsels on court matters, including review/draft of witness statements, statement of defence and other related court papers
- Updating the status of court actions in the litigation database
- Assisting the Head of Legal in delegated matters
What you bring:
The ideal candidate for this Legal Counsel position brings a wealth of experience from their time as practicing legal associate or in-house counsel.
You would have a proven track record in the following:
- Degree in Law – LLB (Hons) is required with a pass in the Certificate of Legal Practice
- Admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor to the Malaysian Bar
- A minimum of 5-7 years' PQE
- Experience in drafting/reviewing tenancy agreement, supply agreement, services agreement, confidentiality/non-disclosure agreement and other types of operational agreement
- Experience in drafting/reviewing litigation documents for court filing and defence statements for consumer tribunal matters
- Strong attention to detail in all aspects of legal work
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia
