Head Legal, Compliance & Risk Management

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head, Legal Compliance and Risk Management to join their fast expanding team. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with local legal licence requirements, internal controls, statutory regulations, and governance policies through regular monitoring.

What you'll do:

As the Head, Legal Compliance and Risk Management, you will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive legal support to our client's executive team. Your responsibilities will include ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations, drafting and reviewing various legal documents, collaborating with other executives on implementing legal strategies, communicating effectively with external parties, staying updated on changes in law that affect the company's operations, and managing the company's legal budget.

Key Responsibilities

• Leadership & Management: Lead and develop the Legal, Compliance & Risk team to drive high performance, capability building, and alignment with corporate goals.
• Governance & Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with Executive Directors and department heads to strengthen compliance culture, governance frameworks, and risk awareness across the business.
• Regulatory Compliance: Oversee compliance with regulations issued by the Securities Commission Malaysia, Bursa Malaysia, and other authorities. Ensure accurate and timely regulatory submissions, approvals, and reporting.
• Legal Advisory: Provide strategic legal advice, review contracts, and ensure company policies and practices are legally sound.
• Company Secretarial Oversight: Supervise company secretarial functions including board resolutions, statutory filings, and compliance with the Companies Act.
• External Counsel Management: Liaise with external legal advisors and ensure effective handling of corporate legal and statutory matters.

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for this Head, Legal Compliance and Risk Management position brings a wealth of experience in both legal, compliance and risk management work experience. You have proven your ability to provide comprehensive legal support on a variety of issues including labour law, partnerships, international ventures, corporate finance. Your excellent drafting skills have been honed through years of creating and reviewing various types of legal documents. You are adept at negotiating with external parties such as regulators and public authorities. Your commitment to staying updated on changes in all relevant areas of law ensures that you can always provide the most accurate and timely advice.

• Proven experience as a Legal Counsel and/or Company Secretary
• Candidates who are called to the Malaysian Bar and/or familiar with Securities Commission/Bursa Malaysia guidelines will be viewed favorably
• Excellent ability to draft and review a wide range of legal documents
• Strong negotiation skills with external parties such as regulators, external counsel, public authorities
• Ability to stay updated on changes in all relevant areas of law
