Legal Consultant (Banking & Finance)

You will be supporting global banking clients by managing outsourced legal work, collaborating closely with in-house legal teams and stakeholders. What you'll do:

As a Legal Consultant based in Kuala Lumpur, you will be responsible for the following.

• Advise on and review loan documents such as facility agreements, security documents, and other transaction-related paperwork to ensure compliance with internal policies and risk management practices.
• Provide guidance on changes to standard facility letters, board resolutions, and corporate guarantees, ensuring commercial objectives are met and all necessary internal approvals are secured.
• Support deal teams and various stakeholders by managing loan transactions from inception through completion, maintaining clear communication throughout the process.
• Review and advise on non-standard corporate authorisation documents for banking customers, ensuring accuracy and adherence to regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate closely with in-house legal teams of clients, offering practical solutions to day-to-day legal queries within the banking sector.
• Build rapport with stakeholders at all levels by demonstrating credibility, empathy, and effective interpersonal communication skills.
• Take ownership of assigned tasks by prioritising workload efficiently and managing expectations across multiple projects simultaneously.
• Utilise excellent computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office and Outlook, to prepare documentation and maintain accurate records.
• Contribute positively to the team’s communal spirit by sharing knowledge, supporting colleagues, and participating in ongoing training initiatives.
• Maintain meticulous attention to detail when reviewing documents or negotiating terms to safeguard client interests.

What you bring:

In this Legal Consultant position, your proven background in corporate banking law will enable you to deliver thoughtful guidance on complex transactions while maintaining meticulous standards of accuracy.

• Possess with Law Degree with minimum 1 – 4 years.
• Exceptional attention to detail when reviewing complex legal documents or drafting correspondence related to syndicated or bilateral loans.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel) and Outlook for efficient document preparation and communication management.
• Confidence in communicating clearly with both internal teams and external clients while remaining sensitive to differing perspectives or requirements.
• Capacity for independent work—taking responsibility for tasks while prioritising workload effectively under minimal supervision.
• Exposure to drafting or negotiating loan agreements as well as security documents for syndicated or bilateral loans is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with APLMA (Asia Pacific Loan Market Association) documentation would be considered an advantage.
