General Counsel (Lending & Investments)

A leading Southeast Asian investment platform connecting global investors to alternative lending opportunities is seeking a General Counsel to serve as the organisation’s chief legal advisor, overseeing all legal and regulatory matters relating to private credit, fund management, loan syndication, and cross‑border financing activities.

What you'll do:

As General Counsel based in Kuala Lumpur, you will be entrusted with steering the organisation’s legal strategy across the fund management and securities offerings.

• Provide strategic legal guidance across all business units including private credit investments, portfolio management, and corporate functions to ensure robust risk management.
• Advise on regional banking, finance, and securities laws with particular focus on private credit transactions, loan origination processes, and cross-border deals.
• Identify and mitigate legal, regulatory, and operational risks associated with credit and investment activities by developing comprehensive frameworks.
• Lead legal support for structuring loans, negotiating credit agreements, managing syndication deals, drafting debt instruments, and facilitating private credit transactions.
• Ensure compliance with financial services regulations including fund management rules, securities laws, and alternative lending requirements throughout the region.
• Liaise effectively with regulators, external counsel, and compliance teams.

What you bring:

To excel as General Counsel in this regional role based in Kuala Lumpur you will bring a wealth of proven experience from the lending and investments, banking & finance or debt capital markets sectors. Your background should include hands-on involvement in drafting complex loan documentation for structured credit transactions alongside deep familiarity with regulatory frameworks spanning Singapore, Malaysia or other Southeast Asian countries.

• A minimum of 10 PQE in lending and investments, banking & finance or debt capital markets.
• Extensive background in loan documentation including structured credit agreements, syndication deals or fund financing arrangements relevant to private credit investments.
• Demonstrated familiarity with regulatory regimes governing financial services in Singapore, Malaysia or broader Southeast Asian jurisdictions.
• Prior experience working in-house at fintech companies, asset managers or financial institutions involved in private credit is highly desirable.
• Exceptional negotiation skills enabling you to structure deals while balancing interests of multiple parties during complex transactions.
