The retail and SME banking arm of this financial institution is seeking a highly skilled Legal Counsel to join its regional team. The role is to provide dedicated legal support and advisory to business units and strategic projects, and mitigate legal and regulatory risks in commercial banking activities.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to provide comprehensive legal support to various group corporate functions, including compliance, finance, operations business, and risk. You will be responsible for handling legal queries, drafting and vetting legal documents, assisting with projects and initiatives, and providing internal legal training. The ideal candidate will be a qualified lawyer with significant experience in the banking and finance industry.

What you'll do:

As a Legal Counsel, you will play a crucial role in supporting various Corporate Functions Units with their legal needs. Your responsibilities will include handling legal queries, vetting and drafting of legal documents, as well as assisting with projects and initiatives. You will also undertake legal and regulatory updates relevant to the organisation. Furthermore, you will support the Head other Legal Counsel on matters handled by the department and provide internal legal trainings for various business streams, Regions, and Branches. Ensuring good and consistent quality advisory services are given will be a key part of your role.

• Support various Corporate Functions Units with regards to legal queries
• Vet and draft legal documents
• Assist with projects and initiatives relevant to the organisation
• Undertake legal and regulatory updates
• Support the Head other Legal Counsel on matters handled by the department
• Provide internal legal trainings for various business streams, Regions, and Branches
• Ensure good and consistent quality advisory services are given
• Monitor the progress of ongoing litigation cases

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for this Legal Counsel position is a qualified lawyer licensed to practice in Malaysia. You should have a minimum of five years post-qualifying experience (PQE) in the banking and finance industry. Experience in legal practice preferably in this area is highly desirable. Fluency in English and Bahasa Malaysia is essential for this role. Familiarity with documentation vetting and provision of legal advice is also required.
