An opportunity has come up for a Country Counsel to play a leadership and legal advisor role as the first key and critical hire for a new Malaysian set-up of this global UK-headquartered financial services advisory firm.
This role is for a Country Counsel who thrives within a pressurised and fast-paced working environment, and is passionate about developing talent, executing growth strategies, and creating a thriving and competitive team. The successful candidate will assist with the establishment and growth of a new Malaysia office in a high-performing, front-office private equity environment.

What you'll do:
As Country Counsel, you will be at the forefront of our operations performing leadership duties. You will provide crucial legal advice on firm-related matters, lead on legal execution on buy side and sell side investment mandates, and offer general provision of services such as asset management, investment banking, corporate finance and private equity advice as a family office to high-net-worth individuals.
The primary responsibilities are:
- Perform leadership duties as expected of a General Counsel.
- Provide ad-hoc legal advice to the Firm on Firm-related matters.
- Lead on legal execution on buyside and sell side investment mandates.
- Oversee the NDA process, creation of agreement templates and corporate secretarial duties.
- Ensure compliance with current legislation by developing and monitoring Legal (and where relevant, compliance) procedures for the Firm.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance relating to financial services.
What you bring:
As Country Counsel, you bring a wealth of experience and skills to the table.
You must possess the following:
- Degree holder, preferably in Law from a reputable establishment.
- Qualified solicitor with minimum of 5 - 8 years’ legal practice experience at a leading law firm.
- Proven track record in building and managing high-performing teams.
- Sound knowledge of legal and financial regulations, alongside compliance obligations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Exceptional leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to demonstrate initiative, work with autonomy and independence.
