Associate, Legal

Due to ongoing and continued successes within both Malaysia and internationally, this global leader within the venture capital industry is seeking a Associate, Legal. In this job, you will support business expansion plans across the APAC region and enhance the organisation’s regional legal support function.

About the Associate, Legal Role:
Due to growth and consolidation plans, the Associate, Legal will play an integral role in the firm’s continued development and success.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage the deal life cycle from deal handshake to completion across various stakeholders and workflows, ensuring timely, precise and accurate closure of all investments for the fund
• Draft, review, negotiate and finalise various commercial contracts, and engagement with advisers and review and/or draft day-to day business related forms
• Work closely with external legal counsels across multiple jurisdictions for specific transactions and projects
• Collaborate closely with different internal and external stakeholders e.g., founders, co-investors, external counsel and all business units to develop and implement processes for efficient and streamlined legal operations
• Drive and manage portfolio management post-closing including leading shareholder voting matters, ensuring data and documentation repositories are up to date and accurate at all times
• Review, track and manage implementation and enforcement of contractual obligations
• Support legal operation matters including ad hoc legal projects, as required

To succeed in this role, you will need to be professional, analytical, and practical, and be persuasive with good interpersonal skills to be able to work co-operatively with the management as well as across departments.

Key Requirements:

• Four to five years of M&A or corporate and commercial experience in a regional or international law firm, with experience supporting emerging or high-growth companies
• Bachelor's Degree in Law from a reputable law school/university
• Knowledge in corporate and commercial laws, contract drafting and negotiation skills are key
• Prior in-house experience, experience in international deals and working across cultures is an advantage
• Meticulous and well organised, has commercial awareness, a sense of ownership and the ability to work independently
• Excellent communicator with great interpersonal skills
• Passionate about tech and venture capital
