This is your chance to shine by bringing your passion for SMT processes, equipment programming, and quality standards into a vibrant environment that truly celebrates collaboration, accountability, and ongoing improvement. You will be at the heart of ensuring every product meets exceptional quality and delivery standards, all while nurturing a spirit of teamwork and professional development among engineers, technicians, and operators. If you thrive on making a positive impact with advanced technology in a genuinely supportive setting, this role offers you the perfect stage to flourish and grow.

  • Take charge of end-to-end SMT line operations, seamlessly coordinating production schedules, materials planning, and process optimisation to achieve outstanding efficiency and results.
  • Inspire continuous improvement by championing Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen initiatives—empowering every team member to contribute ideas that boost yield and minimise defects.
  • Enjoy flexible working opportunities and ongoing training designed to support your professional growth within a knowledgeable, dependable team that values your contributions.

What you'll do:

As SMT Manager in Penang you will immerse yourself in every aspect of SMT line management—from orchestrating daily operations to spearheading strategic improvements. Your days will be filled with energising collaboration alongside cross-functional teams as you coordinate schedules and resources for seamless production flow. You’ll keep a keen eye on performance metrics like line efficiency and machine uptime while enthusiastically seeking out ways to enhance processes. By sharing your technical expertise in equipment programming and compliance standards you’ll guide your team towards ambitious quality goals. Your nurturing approach will shine as you provide hands-on training in an inclusive atmosphere where everyone feels empowered. You’ll also play a key role in maintaining robust documentation for traceability initiatives such as MES integration while supporting audits and first article inspections. Success means not only achieving operational excellence but also uplifting those around you through your commitment to shared success.

  • Plan, manage, and optimise daily operations across multiple SMT lines including stencil printing, SPI, pick-and-place, reflow soldering, AOI inspection, X-ray analysis, and depaneling processes.
  • Ensure that all production output consistently meets quantity targets as well as stringent quality requirements and on-time delivery commitments.
  • Coordinate closely with planning and materials departments to develop effective production schedules that align with business objectives.
  • Monitor and control critical SMT process parameters to achieve high yields while minimising defects throughout the manufacturing cycle.
  • Drive continuous improvement projects by applying Lean Manufacturing principles, Six Sigma tools, or Kaizen events to enhance productivity and reduce waste.
  • Lead the implementation and validation of new equipment installations, material introductions, and process changes to maintain technological competitiveness.
  • Oversee the setup, programming, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of SMT machinery such as Fuji, Panasonic, ASM, or Yamaha systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Supervise, train, mentor, and develop a diverse team of SMT engineers, technicians, and operators while promoting safety awareness and adherence to ESD control procedures.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, discipline, teamwork, and open communication across all levels of the shop floor workforce.
  • Collaborate with QA/QC teams to investigate product defects through root cause analysis (RCA), drive corrective actions promptly, support internal/external audits as well as NPI builds.

What you bring:

To thrive as SMT Manager you will bring hands-on experience from sophisticated SMT production environments paired with an engineering background that gives you deep technical insight. Your history of operational oversight demonstrates your ability to guide teams through complex challenges while upholding industry best practices like IPC-A-610 compliance. Your interpersonal strengths allow you to build trust-based connections across departments—whether collaborating on scheduling solutions or mentoring junior colleagues. With empathy for team development and meticulous attention during audits or RCA investigations; you balance immediate needs against long-term ambitions. Your comfort with digital tools ensures you can monitor KPIs effectively while supporting traceability efforts essential for regulatory compliance. Your enthusiasm for nurturing talent makes you an inspiring presence who helps others succeed.

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field is required for this position.
  • A minimum of 5–8 years’ experience in SMT production environments with at least 2–3 years spent in managerial or supervisory roles overseeing complex operations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing SMT processes including equipment programming (Fuji/Panasonic/ASM/Yamaha) as well as familiarity with IPC-A-610 standards for quality assurance.
  • Hands-on experience with lead-free soldering techniques along with BGA/QFN handling skills for fine pitch components within high-mix/low-volume manufacturing settings.
  • Proven ability to supervise multidisciplinary teams by providing clear guidance on safety protocols (including ESD controls) while encouraging accountability at every level.
  • Excellent troubleshooting abilities combined with strong analytical skills for conducting thorough root cause analyses when addressing process deviations or product defects.
  • Solid command of MES/ERP systems alongside proficiency in utilising SMT analytics tools plus Microsoft Office applications for reporting purposes.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing concepts such as 5S methodology coupled with practical experience implementing continuous improvement initiatives across production lines.
