What you'll do:

As an Assistant Staff Packaging Engineer DfX and DtX based in Penang’s vibrant research hub, you will play a pivotal role in advancing the development of safe and effective medical devices. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve managing complex projects from conception through execution—balancing timeframes and resources while upholding rigorous standards. You will integrate cutting-edge DfX principles into every aspect of product development by collaborating closely with cross-functional teams. Your expertise will drive improvements in manufacturability and maintainability during the earliest stages of design. By supporting hands-on activities across design validation and process troubleshooting, you will ensure that every solution meets stringent regulatory requirements. You will also be responsible for researching new technologies in packaging and sterilisation processes—leveraging these insights to enhance product performance. As a trusted mentor within the team, you will guide junior engineers towards excellence while fostering a culture of shared learning. Your contributions will directly impact patient safety worldwide as you help deliver reliable healthcare solutions.

  • Manage all aspects of assigned projects from initiation through completion, ensuring timely delivery within established budgets while maintaining clear communication with stakeholders throughout each phase.
  • Estimate project costs, resource requirements, and timelines accurately; monitor progress closely and assign tasks effectively to ensure targets are consistently met.
  • Integrate Design for Excellence (DfX) methodologies into product development schedules, focusing on high-volume manufacturing processes, assembly techniques, molding operations, metalwork, advanced packaging technologies, component selection strategies, testing protocols, inspection methods, and robust quality assurance practices for medical devices.
  • Ensure that design for manufacturability and maintenance considerations are embedded early in the design phase to optimise downstream production efficiency and reliability.
  • Support, manage, execute, and report on all design and manufacturing activities related to packaging engineering while maintaining comprehensive documentation for traceability.
  • Maintain strong technical aptitude by staying current with advancements in DfX methodologies, manufacturing innovations, assembly solutions, molding technologies, metal fabrication techniques, packaging materials science, component qualification procedures, test method development, inspection criteria establishment, and quality assurance systems.
  • Research emerging trends in manufacturing technology; collaborate with supply chain partners to identify technical requirements; lead value engineering initiatives aimed at cost reduction without compromising quality or compliance.
  • Identify suitable mechanical components and qualify secondary sources for critical materials to ensure supply chain resilience and continuity of production.
  • Select external contractors judiciously; oversee their integration into project teams; monitor service standards rigorously to guarantee successful outcomes.
  • Provide technical guidance by performing detailed analyses; recommend experimental designs; prepare thorough design-of-experiments plans; review specifications meticulously; develop technical expertise across the team; ensure accurate reporting at every stage.
  • Coach and mentor less experienced engineers by reviewing their work for quality assurance purposes; offer support in problem-solving scenarios; facilitate knowledge transfer through structured training sessions.
