What you'll do:

As a Senior Cybersecurity Engineer based in Penang, you will be entrusted with overseeing the day-to-day operational integrity of network security systems within a medium to large enterprise environment. Your responsibilities will span from real-time monitoring of security events to hands-on troubleshooting of sophisticated IT security solutions. You will be instrumental in implementing new technologies, optimising existing defences, and acting as an escalation point for complex incidents. In addition to managing routine maintenance tasks on firewalls and other appliances, you will also lead significant projects—both independently for smaller initiatives and collaboratively as part of larger teams—ensuring that all deployments meet stringent compliance standards. Your ability to communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels will be essential as you provide advice on best practices, liaise with external partners or suppliers when necessary, supervise junior staff members, and drive continuous improvement across the organisation’s cybersecurity posture.

• Monitor and respond promptly to IT security events and alerts, ensuring timely identification and remediation of potential threats across the organisation’s infrastructure.
• Plan and execute proactive maintenance activities on network security devices such as firewalls, web filters, email filters, and authentication solutions to maintain optimal protection levels.
• Troubleshoot complex issues escalated from other teams by conducting detailed log analysis and packet inspection to resolve incidents efficiently.
• Implement moves, adds, and changes on IT security solutions in accordance with established policies and procedures, maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Act as the technical escalation point for all faults related to IT security solutions, providing expert guidance and resolution for challenging problems.
• Ensure that all aspects of security design and configuration adhere strictly to industry best practices as well as internal standards and relevant legal or regulatory frameworks.
• Configure, deploy, and manage IT security solutions including firewalls (such as Cisco FirePower, Palo Alto, CheckPoint), dynamic routing protocols (BGP/OSPF), AAA solutions, and Microsoft Defender suite.
• Lead larger assigned projects as the technical subject matter expert for security, collaborating closely with project teams and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
• Independently manage smaller projects from inception through completion under the oversight of the management team, ensuring successful delivery within agreed timelines.
• Advise IT teams on technology choices and best practices relating to networks and security while identifying areas for improvement in existing processes or systems.

• A degree in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience that demonstrates your deep understanding of network security principles within enterprise environments.
• Professional-level certifications such as CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker), PCNSE (Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer), or CCNP Security (Cisco Certified Network Professional Security) which showcase your commitment to ongoing professional development.
• At least five years’ proven experience in a network security engineer or security analyst role gained within medium to large organisations where you have managed complex infrastructures.
• A minimum of two years’ hands-on experience with routing and switching technologies in enterprise settings, demonstrating your ability to manage dynamic routing protocols like BGP or OSPF effectively.
• Extensive background in monitoring, analysing, and remediating security events using industry-standard tools within a Security Operations Centre (SOC) or similar environment.
• Significant expertise in configuring, deploying, managing, and troubleshooting firewalls/security appliances such as Cisco FirePower, Palo Alto Networks devices, CheckPoint solutions; plus experience with enterprise web/email filters and AAA solutions.
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Defender suite (Azure/365) for endpoint protection across distributed environments.
• Experience acting as technical lead on major projects involving multiple stakeholders where you provided subject matter expertise on network security matters.
• Excellent written and spoken English skills enabling clear communication with both technical teams and business stakeholders at all organisational levels.
• A collaborative approach that includes mentoring junior staff members while fostering an inclusive team culture focused on shared success.
