Save job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced New Product Introduction Director to join a leading global organisation in Penang, Malaysia. This pivotal role is perfect for someone who thrives on guiding new product development from concept through to high-volume manufacturing, ensuring exceptional quality and cost performance at every stage.

What you'll do:

As the New Product Introduction Director based in Penang, you will play a central role in shaping the future of advanced electronics products. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve orchestrating complex projects that span multiple disciplines—ensuring seamless integration between design teams, process engineers, manufacturing operations, and customers.

  • Oversee the entire new product introduction process, managing cross-functional deliverables from initial design through material selection, qualification, and transition into high-volume manufacturing.
  • Develop comprehensive project schedules, track progress against milestones, and ensure timely delivery of new products that meet or exceed quality and cost expectations.
  • Lead the qualification of new packages, driving initiatives from early prototype builds through to sustained high-yield production while maintaining rigorous quality standards.
  • Guide assembly process engineering activities across all stages of assembly and final test operations, ensuring robust procedures are in place for optimal productivity.
  • Champion continuous improvement efforts by planning, evaluating, verifying, and executing strategies that enhance yield, quality, and overall productivity throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Conduct daily reviews of quality metrics and yield data, spearheading root cause analysis for defects using systematic problem-solving methodologies such as ESDA, FMEA, SPC, DOE, and MSA.
  • Implement interim containment measures and long-term corrective actions during pre-mass production stages to address any deviations or excursions effectively.
  • Create detailed characterisation plans and risk assessments for both new and existing devices requiring engineering support to mitigate potential issues proactively.
  • Act as the primary customer interface for NPI activities, managing engineering tasks, participating in quality performance meetings, and resolving technical challenges collaboratively with clients.
  • Support material cost reduction programmes by driving value engineering initiatives in partnership with internal teams and external partners.

What you bring:

To excel as a New Product Introduction Director in this organisation, you will bring extensive hands-on experience gained within the electronics sector—particularly in roles focused on NPI development or assembly process engineering.

  • A degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering or an equivalent technical discipline is required for this role to ensure a strong foundation in core principles relevant to electronics manufacturing.
  • At least 10 years of proven experience in new product introduction development or assembly process engineering within the electronics industry is essential for success in this position.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of assembly materials—including their interaction with package workmanship and reliability—is necessary to oversee complex manufacturing processes effectively.
  • Demonstrated expertise in applying advanced problem-solving tools such as DOE (Design of Experiments), SPC (Statistical Process Control), FMEA (Failure Mode Effects Analysis), MSA (Measurement System Analysis), JMP software, and other analytical methodologies is vital.
  • Hands-on experience with assembly process equipment, packaging technologies, and large-scale manufacturing environments is highly desirable for this leadership role.
  • Proficiency in project management methodologies—including scheduling tools, milestone tracking systems, and resource allocation techniques—will enable you to deliver projects efficiently.
  • Strong people management skills are required to guide NPI and process engineers effectively while nurturing a culture of teamwork and shared responsibility.
  • Excellent communication abilities are needed for successful customer interfacing—handling NPI activities, participating in quality meetings, managing issues collaboratively—and building trust-based relationships with clients.
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to work cohesively alongside supporting groups and operations teams is essential for achieving shared objectives.
