A leading automotive manufacturer in Shah Alam is seeking an Assistant Plant and Machine Maintenance Manager for a two-year contract. This role offers you the opportunity to play a pivotal part in ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-efficient plant operations by overseeing all aspects of maintenance, facilities, utilities, and asset management.

What you'll do:

As the Assistant Plant and Machine Maintenance Manager based in Shah Alam on a two-year contract, you will be responsible for orchestrating all maintenance activities that underpin the smooth operation of the plant. Your day-to-day tasks will involve :

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve preventive and predictive maintenance programmes to ensure optimal performance of all critical equipment and utilities.
  • Coordinate closely with production teams to schedule maintenance activities that minimise disruption to manufacturing efficiency while maximising equipment lifespan.
  • Oversee daily operation and maintenance of utilities including electricity, compressed air, water, HVAC systems, gas systems, and solar power assets to guarantee seamless facility functionality.
  • Ensure facility infrastructure such as buildings, fire systems, lighting, ventilation, and waste systems operate safely and efficiently at all times.
  • Conduct regular audits, inspections, and equipment safety assessments to uphold compliance with Malaysian regulations (DOSH, Bomba, DOE) as well as internal safety standards.
  • Lead corrective actions for identified hazards by implementing safe work procedures across the maintenance team and fostering a culture of safety.
  • Manage maintenance budgets effectively by optimising resource allocation and spare parts usage while identifying cost reduction opportunities through Kaizen initiatives and energy optimisation.
  • Build strong relationships with external service providers, contractors, and equipment suppliers to secure high service levels for maintenance contracts and procurement needs.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders including senior managers, technical divisions, quality teams, ESH teams, finance departments, and cost control teams to align strategic objectives and optimise asset investments.

What you bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering or a related discipline is required for this position.
  • You bring 8–12 years of relevant experience in plant maintenance or equipment reliability within an automotive or manufacturing environment.
  • Your expertise includes preventive and predictive maintenance methods that enhance operational reliability.
  • You possess strong knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements including HSE-DOSH (Department of Occupational Safety & Health), DOE (Department of Environment), Bomba (Fire Department), Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga).
  • You demonstrate proficiency in cost management strategies that optimise resource allocation without compromising quality or safety.
  • Your stakeholder management skills enable you to build collaborative relationships with both internal teams and external service providers.
  • Project management capabilities allow you to plan complex maintenance schedules efficiently while balancing competing priorities.
  • Risk management acumen ensures hazards are identified early with corrective actions implemented promptly.
  • Sustainability focus drives your approach towards energy optimisation initiatives that reduce environmental impact.
