What you'll do:

As an Industrial Engineer based in Penang Malaysia, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing operational efficiency across the manufacturing facility. Your day-to-day responsibilities involve collaborating with various departments to optimise factory layouts, streamline material flows, implement lean manufacturing techniques, conduct time studies, plan capacity utilisation, manage purchasing activities with suppliers, oversee utility installations or relocations, participate in technical evaluations for new projects, contribute to budget planning cycles, uphold rigorous compliance standards across quality management systems, environmental protocols and occupational health & safety procedures. You’ll also be tasked with analysing test results from production lines—identifying issues quickly—and developing automated testing systems that ensure consistent product quality. Success in this role requires a keen eye for detail combined with strong interpersonal skills; your ability to connect with colleagues across functions ensures that improvement initiatives are implemented smoothly while maintaining a safe and environmentally responsible workplace.

  • You will be responsible for designing and optimising the factory layout of machines and assembly lines to maximise efficiency and safety.
  • You will liaise closely with the Facility Department to coordinate factory renovation activities that support operational improvements.
  • You will design and improve material flow for incoming goods, work-in-progress items, and finished products to ensure seamless production processes.
  • You will implement Lean Manufacturing principles such as 5S, Kanban, Heijunka, JIT, Jidoka, SMED, Pull System, and other methodologies to drive continuous improvement.
  • You will review opportunities for space optimisation by conducting thorough assessments of current layouts and proposing space-saving activities.
  • You will conduct time studies for machines and assembly lines, maintaining accurate records to inform process enhancements.
  • You will collaborate with production planners on line UPH (units per hour) and capacity planning to ensure optimal resource utilisation.
  • You will carry out feasibility studies on line performance, manpower utilisation, workflow balancing, capacity utilisation, and lead improvement initiatives based on findings.
  • You will liaise with suppliers together with buyers for purchasing activities related to equipment or materials needed for production.
  • You will oversee utility hook-ups for equipment installation or relocation activities within the plant.
  • You will work closely with Manufacturing Engineers and NPI Engineers on RFQ (request for quotation) activities including technical evaluation, cycle time estimation, and layout proposals.
  • You will participate in budget and Capex planning both quarterly and annually to support strategic business objectives.
  • You will comply with QMS (Quality Management System), EMS (Environmental Management System), and OHS (Occupational Health & Safety) requirements and procedures at all times.
  • You will analyse test results from production processes, detect issues promptly, track root causes systematically, and document technical issues along with effective solutions.
  • You will build automated testing systems for regular checks to maintain high standards of product quality.
  • You will ensure that products and procedures consistently meet industry standards such as ISO certifications.
