What you'll do:
As the Risk, Control and Compliance Manager at this thriving retail centre in Johor, you will play a pivotal role in safeguarding both people and assets through robust risk management practices. Your day-to-day activities will involve collaborating with various departments to identify potential hazards unique to the retail environment while ensuring all processes adhere strictly to both internal policies and external regulations. - Oversee the design, installation, and ongoing improvement of safety and security systems to meet both internal requirements and local legislation.
- Lead the development of training materials for co-workers and external partners to build risk awareness in line with organisational risk appetite.
- Supervise outsourced security service providers on-site, ensuring their performance meets company expectations for safety and compliance.
- Administer education programmes on risk knowledge, working methods, audits, reporting protocols, and record-keeping as required by policy.
- Drive operational risk topics such as crowd management plans, traffic flow strategies, process gap analysis, and exposure mitigation initiatives throughout the centre.
- Ensure full compliance with internal and external audit requirements—including insurance checks, process audits, authority inspections—and develop action plans for continuous improvement.
- Act as the primary liaison with emergency response teams and local authorities (such as fire departments), coordinating emergency cases according to established management plans.

- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in occupational health/safety, environmental engineering or related field coupled with over 10 years’ experience in similar roles within retail or related industries; minimum three years at managerial level is essential.
- Proven track record managing incident reporting systems as well as claims handling processes involving insurance companies.
- Demonstrated experience overseeing FCC (Fire Command Centre) operations alongside managing security guard teams within large-scale facilities.
- Hands-on involvement in planning fire drills, conducting system tests for crisis readiness, investigating fraud cases or unethical behaviours within an organisational context.
- Expertise in setting long-term strategic plans for risk management functions—including budget setting responsibilities—and following up on goal achievement metrics.
- Comprehensive understanding of regulatory frameworks governing fire safety (including Bomba/DOSH requirements), health & safety legislation relevant to Malaysia’s retail sector.
- Ability to develop effective training programmes tailored for diverse audiences including staff members, contractors or tenants—enhancing overall preparedness levels across the centre.
- Strong interpersonal skills enabling effective communication with internal teams as well as external agencies such as police or fire brigade representatives.
- Experience conducting root cause analyses following incidents/accidents; recommending practical solutions that prevent recurrence while supporting continuous improvement efforts.
- Commitment to upholding ethical standards by educating others on codes of conduct (anti-corruption/bribery policies) whilst cultivating transparency throughout all operations.
