Mechanical Design Engineer

You will be responsible for the functional concept and detailed design of new products, as well as improvements on existing ones. The role also involves generating and modifying detailed drawings, creating and maintaining BOM or part lists for projects, performing basic design calculations, developing prototypes, and providing technical support to various business units.

What you'll do:

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, your role will be pivotal in driving the conceptualisation, design, prototyping, testing, coding and release for sales and production of new or existing parts. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring part reliability and quality through meticulous design calculations. You will also play a key role in supporting the company's part localisation activity by providing technical and engineering support.

• Responsible for functional concept and detailed design of new and improvement of existing products according to market needs and customer requirements
• Generate, modify and store detail drawings of new or existing products design in company database whenever required
• Creation and maintenance of BOM or part list for projects on new or existing products
• Perform basic design calculations on designs whenever required to ensure part reliability and quality are realized
• Design, develop and assemble prototypes, arrange and perform in-house or field testing to qualify and validate the design
• Undertake costing study of new products with the assistance of Procurement Engineering
• Provide technical and engineering support to company’s part localization activity
• Provide technical and engineering support to company’s Business Units and Operations division in terms of technical and design clarification, customized requests and alterations
• To establish communication links and work closely with HQ Technical department on development of new products, improvement on existing products, design-related issues, and special requests from customers

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for the Mechanical Design Engineer role will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and/or Mechatronics Engineering. You should possess sound knowledge in the basics of Mechanical Engineering design, including sheet metal, plastic components, machining parts, machinery components, and production processes. Experience and knowledge in basic mechatronics engineering will be an added advantage. Your ability to use CAD software for product design and drawing preparation is essential. Good analytical and calculation skills in product design and mechanical engineering are also required.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and/or Mechatronics Engineering
• Sound knowledge in basics of Mechanical Engineering design, including sheet metal, plastic components, machining parts, machinery components, production processes
• Experience and knowledge in basic mechatronics engineering will be an added advantage, for example electric motor drive and power systems, control systems, sensors, pneumatic cylinders, robotics
• Able to use CAD software for product design and drawing preparation
• Good analytical and calculation skills in product design and mechanical engineering
• Ability to present the design work done in a marketable manner is an added advantage
• Able to work in a team, have good personality/attitude and good communication skills
