Tax Section Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Tax Section Manager to join a leading global enterprise to be based in Penang.

This role is a new addition, designed to handle tax matters for the local entity as well as other entities within the Group. The successful candidate will be part of a team that designs and develops high-performance, high-availability solutions, serving customers with deep technical knowledge, custom design engineering, and a commitment to best-in-class quality.

What you'll do:

As a Tax Section Manager, you will play a pivotal role in managing tax matters for both local and group entities. Your responsibilities will span across various areas including tax accounting, reporting activities, preparation and review of monthly tax provisions, finalisation of draft tax computations in line with local laws, indirect tax reporting, tracking of intercompany transactions, preparation of transfer pricing documentations among others. You will also have the opportunity to participate in various tax projects and contribute towards improving processes by developing or implementing best practices.

  • Involved in tax accounting and reporting activities for the Group covering SEA regions and other regions as appropriate.
  • Preparation/review monthly tax provision for entities.
  • Finalization of draft tax computation for entities in accordance with local tax laws and regulations.
  • Preparation/ review of deferred tax asset/liability and current tax disclosures and quarterly updates.
  • Preparation/ review of indirect tax reporting (e.g. SST, GST/ VAT, WHT) for entities.
  • Tracking of tax incentive compliance status of the local entity and highlight any issues identified.
  • Tracking of intercompany transactions of the Group and ensure proper documentation is maintained to support the arm-length pricing.
  • Preparation/ review transfer pricing documentations/ Country-by-country reporting for the entities.
  • Participating in various tax projects and any ad-hoc projects as required by the management.
  • Improve processes by developing or implementing best practices.

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for this Tax Section Manager position will bring a wealth of experience and knowledge in the field of Finance, Accounting, and Taxation. You will have a degree in a relevant discipline and/or a professional qualification such as ACCA, AIA or CIMA. Your experience will include at least 5 years in an in-house role or within Big-4 or tax shared services with a focus on direct/indirect tax compliance and transfer pricing. Your technical knowledge will cover areas such as corporate income taxation, transfer pricing, tax consolidations, financing, withholding taxes and tax treaties. You will be detail-oriented with excellent language skills in English. Your ability to work cooperatively within a team, yet independently when required, will be key to your success in this role.

  • Degree in relevant discipline and/or a professional qualification preferable in the areas of Finance / Accounting / Taxation (e.g. ACCA / AIA / CIMA graduate)
  • 5 years of experience as in-house and/or Big-4 or tax shared services with focus on direct/ indirect tax compliance and transfer pricing.
  • Knowledge of technical aspects with focus on corporate income taxation including transfer pricing, tax consolidations, financing, withholding taxes and tax treaties.
  • Excellent attention to details.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English; other language proficiency will be an added advantage.
  • Cooperative team player who can also work independently and systematically, taking initiative and responsibility.
