A leading organisation in Penang is seeking several General Ledger Accountants to join their expanding finance team.

This role offers you the chance to work within a supportive and inclusive environment, where your expertise in general accounting will be highly valued and your professional growth actively encouraged. You will play a key part in ensuring accurate financial reporting, supporting both local and global operations, and contributing to process improvements that drive efficiency across the business. With access to flexible working opportunities and ongoing training, this position is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative setting and is eager to develop their skills further within an international context.

  • Join a knowledgeable and dependable finance team with a strong commitment to collaboration and support, ensuring you always have guidance and encouragement as you grow in your career.
  • Benefit from flexible working opportunities and continuous training initiatives designed to help you expand your skill set, stay up-to-date with industry best practices, and achieve your professional goals.
  • Experience the satisfaction of making a real impact by contributing to process improvements, supporting global operations, and being part of an inclusive environment that values every team member’s input.

What you'll do:

As a General Ledger Accountant based in Penang, you will be entrusted with a broad range of responsibilities that are essential to the smooth operation of the finance department. Your day-to-day activities will involve collaborating closely with colleagues from different regions to ensure all general accounting tasks are executed accurately and efficiently. You will be responsible for preparing critical month-end entries, analysing accounts, reconciling balances, and supporting both internal controls and external audit requirements. In addition to managing fixed asset transactions—from maintaining registers to overseeing capital expenditure—you will also contribute meaningfully to process improvement projects that leverage new technologies such as AI tools. Your ability to communicate effectively within a team-oriented environment will be key to your success in this role. By taking ownership of these varied tasks, you will help maintain high standards of financial integrity while supporting the organisation’s broader objectives.

  • Assist with month-end closing activities by preparing journal entries, conducting account analysis, performing reconciliations, and ensuring accurate account coding, allocation, and revaluation processes are completed on time.
  • Prepare detailed ad-hoc financial management reports for review by the Manager, providing valuable insights that support effective decision-making across the organisation.
  • Participate actively in internal SOX compliance reviews as well as external audits for US GAAP reporting requirements related to regional entities, ensuring all documentation is thorough and accurate.
  • Engage collaboratively with cross-functional teams across various regions to ensure seamless communication and alignment on accounting matters.
  • Drive continuous process improvement initiatives within the finance function, particularly through the adoption of AI tools that enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Oversee capital expenditure control by maintaining proper custody of assets, optimising asset utilisation, and monitoring fixed asset expenditure against budgetary constraints.
  • Maintain and update the fixed assets register regularly while reviewing and coding general ledger accounts for capital expenditure purchase requisitions.
  • Perform monthly depreciation calculations and reconciliations for fixed assets, ensuring full compliance with US GAAP as well as local accounting standards.
  • Support physical fixed asset sighting exercises to verify asset existence and condition as required by audit protocols.
  • Assist in capex budgeting and forecasting activities, providing reliable data that supports strategic planning efforts.

What you bring:

To excel as a General Ledger Accountant in this role, you should bring proven experience from previous positions where you have managed complex accounting tasks with diligence and care. Your educational background should include relevant qualifications such as a degree in accounting or finance; additional certifications like CPA or ACCA would further strengthen your profile. Familiarity with enterprise resource planning systems such as SAP is important for navigating daily responsibilities efficiently. You should also be comfortable using standard office software packages—and if you have explored AI tools for process enhancement, this will set you apart. Beyond technical skills, your interpersonal abilities will allow you to collaborate harmoniously with colleagues across departments and regions. A genuine enthusiasm for learning new approaches coupled with unwavering ethical standards will ensure you thrive within this supportive team environment. Experience gained from global organisations or renowned audit firms would provide valuable perspective but is not essential; what matters most is your commitment to delivering quality results while nurturing positive relationships at every level.

  • Hold a degree in accounting or finance; CPA, ACCA or equivalent qualifications are preferred for this position.
  • Demonstrate at least five years of experience in accounting or finance roles where you have developed a solid understanding of core principles and standards.
  • Possess strong familiarity with SAP or similar ERP systems alongside proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; experience using AI tools is considered an advantage.
  • Exhibit excellent organisational abilities combined with clear communication skills that enable you to work effectively within a team-focused environment.
  • Display a positive attitude towards learning new concepts while maintaining high ethical standards throughout your work.
  • Show eagerness to embrace new challenges and seize opportunities for personal development within the finance function.
  • Bring prior experience working in Global Shared Service Centres, US multinational companies or Big 4 audit firms—this background would be highly regarded but not mandatory.
