What you'll do:

As a GL Senior Accountant based in Penang, you will be entrusted with significant responsibilities that span across all facets of general accounting. Your day-to-day activities will involve preparing detailed financial reports that adhere strictly to both US GAAP and Malaysian standards. You will collaborate closely with various departments to provide valuable insights into financial trends while supporting statutory reporting requirements. Your expertise will be crucial in managing fixed assets and capital expenditures as well as ensuring robust controls over accruals and prepayments. In addition to supporting tax compliance efforts—including transfer pricing—you will also play a key role in managing audits by liaising with external parties such as auditors and regulatory authorities. By championing process improvements through automation and AI-driven solutions, you will help drive operational excellence throughout the finance function.

• Coordinate all aspects of the general accounting function by overseeing financial closing activities to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
• Prepare comprehensive management and statutory financial reports in strict compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, corporate policies, and both internal and external reporting obligations.
• Review and analyse trends in management reports while providing insightful financial advice to management teams and business partners to support strategic decision-making.
• Prepare local MYR book entries and manage the translation of MYR book from USD for statutory reporting purposes in Malaysia.
• Oversee fixed assets management including capital expenditure control as well as accruals, prepayments, and lease accounting in accordance with US GAAP and local accounting standards.
• Support the Corporate Tax team by monitoring compliance with tax holiday conditions and transfer pricing regulations; assist in preparing local tax books for Pioneer status, IPC entities, and other tax-related queries.
• Manage relationships with internal and external auditors as well as legal advisors, company secretarial firms, tax agents, bankers, and local authorities to ensure smooth audits and regulatory compliance.
• Continuously examine current processes to identify areas for improvement by adopting best practices that enhance reliability, consistency, cost efficiency, automation, big data analysis, especially through the use of AI tools.
• Participate actively in ad-hoc projects or reports as required by management or regulatory bodies to support business objectives.

What you bring:

To excel as a GL Senior Accountant in this role, you will bring proven experience from senior-level positions within finance or accounting departments—ideally gained in multinational settings or large-scale shared service centres. Your deep understanding of both US GAAP and Malaysian statutory requirements will enable you to navigate complex regulatory landscapes confidently. You are adept at leveraging ERP platforms like SAP for efficient workflow management while embracing new technologies such as AI tools for process enhancement. Your interpersonal skills allow you to build dependable relationships across teams while maintaining the highest ethical standards. A history of successful audit management—whether internal or external—will further distinguish you as an ideal candidate for this position.

• Hold a degree in accounting or possess CPA/ACCA or equivalent professional qualifications which demonstrate your technical proficiency.
• Bring atleast 8 years of hands-on experience in accounting and finance roles within complex organisational structures.
• Demonstrate a thorough understanding of US GAAP alongside international (IFRS) and Malaysian accounting principles to ensure full compliance across all reporting activities.
• Showcase strong familiarity with SAP or similar ERP systems; experience using AI tools for process automation is highly regarded.
• Exhibit excellent organisational skills combined with clear communication abilities that foster effective teamwork within multicultural environments.
• Display high ethical standards coupled with a collaborative approach that supports knowledge sharing among colleagues.
• Possess prior experience working within Global Shared Service Centres or Multinational Corporations; background in Big 4 audit firms is considered advantageous but not essential.
