A leading organisation in Kuala Lumpur is seeking a General Ledger Manager to oversee the full spectrum of general accounting and financial reporting functions. This role offers you the opportunity to work closely with Mandarin-speaking stakeholders, making your language skills invaluable. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with MFRS standards, managing month-end close processes, and driving process improvements within a supportive team environment. The company values technical excellence, accountability, and collaborative leadership, providing you with the chance to mentor and develop a dedicated GL team. If you are looking for a position where your expertise in financial reporting, statutory audit, and ERP systems will be recognised and rewarded, this is an ideal opportunity to advance your career in a dynamic setting that encourages professional growth and knowledge sharing.

What you'll do:

As a General Ledger Manager based in Kuala Lumpur, you will be entrusted with overseeing comprehensive general accounting functions while ensuring strict adherence to MFRS standards. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve leading month-end close activities, preparing financial statements, reviewing complex accounting treatments, managing intercompany reconciliations, supporting statutory audits, strengthening internal controls, driving process improvements, participating in ERP system enhancements, and mentoring your team. Success in this role requires meticulous attention to detail as you guide your team through challenging deadlines while maintaining high-quality reporting. Your ability to communicate fluently in Mandarin will be essential for engaging stakeholders across multiple regions. By leveraging your technical expertise in financial reporting and audit matters alongside your collaborative leadership style, you will contribute significantly to the organisation’s commitment to excellence.

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities in accordance with MFRS standards and company policies, ensuring timely and accurate completion of all financial reporting requirements.
  • Ensure the precise preparation of financial statements and disclosures under MFRS by providing technical guidance on new or revised standards to the finance team.
  • Review complex journal entries, accruals, provisions, and accounting treatments to guarantee proper accounting for revenue recognition, leases, financial instruments, and consolidation where applicable.
  • Oversee the entire spectrum of general ledger operations including intercompany transactions, reconciliations, and maintenance of the chart of accounts to uphold data integrity.
  • Review balance sheet schedules regularly and ensure prompt resolution of outstanding items to maintain high-quality reporting standards.
  • Lead statutory audit processes by liaising effectively with external auditors and tax agents while ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Support tax computations and related schedules by collaborating closely with internal teams to facilitate accurate submissions.
  • Strengthen internal controls by identifying gaps in current processes and implementing improvements that align with company policies.
  • Drive process improvement initiatives across the finance function to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in daily operations.
  • Support ERP system implementation or enhancement projects by providing expert input on accounting requirements and facilitating smooth transitions.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop the GL team by fostering accountability, technical excellence, and timely deliverables within a collaborative environment.

What you bring:

To excel as a General Ledger Manager within this organisation, you will bring extensive experience from previous roles involving general ledger management, financial reporting under MFRS standards, statutory audits, tax computations, ERP system enhancements, and process improvement initiatives. Your academic background coupled with professional qualifications ensures you possess deep technical knowledge necessary for guiding your team through complex accounting challenges. Your proven ability to handle full set accounts independently reflects your dependability when managing critical tasks. Additionally, your analytical approach allows you to identify areas for improvement while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. Your interpersonal skills—especially fluency in Mandarin—will help foster trust among stakeholders while nurturing a collaborative atmosphere within your team. By combining these strengths with your commitment to high-quality deliverables under tight deadlines, you will thrive in this role.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance is required
  • Professional qualification such as ACCA, CPA or CA is highly preferred as it demonstrates advanced expertise in accounting principles.
  • Minimum 8–12 years of relevant experience is expected with at least 3–5 years spent in a managerial capacity overseeing general ledger functions.
  • Strong hands-on experience with MFRS is mandatory due to the technical nature of financial reporting responsibilities.
  • Proven track record in financial reporting and statutory audit processes is essential for success in this role.
  • Experience handling full set accounts independently showcases your ability to manage end-to-end accounting operations efficiently.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle or Dynamics (or similar) is important for supporting system implementations or enhancements.
  • A strong analytical mindset enables you to resolve complex issues quickly while meeting tight deadlines consistently.
  • Fluency in both Mandarin and English is required for effective communication with Mandarin-speaking stakeholders across various departments.
