What you'll do:

As Finance and Purchasing Manager at the Klang refinery site, you will play a central role in shaping both the financial direction and procurement strategy of the business. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve managing a dedicated team across finance and purchasing functions while ensuring all reporting deadlines are met with precision. You will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders from marketing to production as well as external partners such as auditors and suppliers. Success in this position requires you to balance strategic oversight with hands-on involvement in budgeting cycles, cash flow forecasting, supplier negotiations, asset management processes, tax computations preparation for review by Group Tax Department, insurance renewals coordination, audit query resolution relating to annual accounts—and any additional duties assigned by the Head of Business Unit. Your ability to foster teamwork while maintaining rigorous standards will be key in driving both departmental performance and overall business outcomes.

  • Oversee and manage the Finance & Purchasing Department, ensuring seamless integration between financial management and procurement activities to support refinery operations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of financial reports, management accounts, cash flow forecasts, and statutory accounts while maintaining strict adherence to accounting standards and company procedures.
  • Lead annual budgeting processes, prepare statutory accounts, and liaise with auditors, tax authorities, banks, and regulatory bodies to ensure full compliance with all requirements.
  • Monitor financial performance by analysing variances and trends; recommend corrective actions as needed to maintain optimal operational efficiency.
  • Effectively manage working capital with particular focus on debtors and inventory levels to maximise organisational benefit.
  • Handle banking facilities including foreign exchange transactions, money market dealings, letters of credit, and other related matters in close collaboration with bankers.
  • Review cost accounting reports regularly; recommend improvements to internal controls and corporate governance processes for enhanced transparency.
  • Supervise, train, and develop accounting staff within the department; foster a culture of integrity, professionalism, high performance, and communal support.
  • Oversee end-to-end procurement activities such as vendor selection, price negotiation, purchase order issuance, contract management, supplier relationship development, performance monitoring, and periodic evaluations.
  • Implement effective controls to minimise wastage, stock obsolescence, discrepancies; ensure fixed assets are properly recorded, maintained or disposed of according to policy.

What you bring:

Your background as a Finance and Purchasing Manager equips you with deep expertise in both financial management principles and procurement processes relevant to large-scale industrial settings. You bring not only technical proficiency but also an empathetic approach that fosters collaboration among colleagues. Your experience spans budgeting cycles through statutory account preparation—enabling you to guide teams through complex reporting requirements while maintaining compliance at every stage. You have demonstrated your ability to analyse data effectively using tools like Excel; your visionary mindset helps anticipate industry shifts so that proactive solutions can be implemented ahead of time. As someone who thrives on inter-personal connections within diverse teams—including marketing specialists or logistics coordinators—you understand how shared goals drive collective success. Your commitment extends beyond results: you invest time in developing others through structured training programmes under supportive leadership frameworks.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field is required for this position; professional qualifications such as ACCA or equivalent are highly advantageous.
  • Minimum 8–10 years’ proven experience in finance or accountancy roles within refinery operations or similar industries such as palm oil processing or chemical manufacturing is preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting purposes is essential for success in this role.
  • Comprehensive understanding of accounting standards coupled with strong financial acumen enables you to provide insightful recommendations for process improvement.
  • Visionary thinking allows you to anticipate future challenges while developing strategies that align with organisational goals.
  • Ability to work independently yet collaboratively within teams ensures smooth workflow across departments.
  • Result-oriented approach drives you towards achieving targets while maintaining accuracy in all deliverables.
  • Experience supervising staff demonstrates your capacity for nurturing talent through training opportunities and supportive leadership practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills facilitate effective communication with internal teams (marketing/production/logistics) as well as external stakeholders (auditors/bankers/suppliers/regulatory bodies).
  • Knowledge of procurement best practices including vendor selection criteria development; contract negotiation; supplier relationship management; performance evaluation; implementation of controls against wastage/discrepancies/stock obsolescence.
